Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 18, 2012 9:39 am Hi all, I've done a lot of reading and have put together a 3D sketchup of the retaining wall I want to build. From my research I've found post depth should be half in half out as well and to use regular concrete not rapid set, but I haven't sound any recommendation on hole size and amount of concrete when using H channel. I'm planning on using a post hole digger for the H channel which will give me a hole diameter of around 200mm, will that be enough or should I aim for a greater diamater? Also as far as concrete goes I planned on filling the holes to just below the top of the hole so I've got some room for backfilling with soil, does that sound right? Any suggestions would be very welcome! Thanks. Re: Hole size required for H channel retaining wall? 2May 21, 2012 10:10 pm 200mm will be fine, set up the H sections to a horizontal line so that they look neat after the wall is finished. A little bit of stone in the bottom of each hole will help with these heights. @builderforlife Building inspector and passionate about construction When you need an expert to take a look. Re: Hole size required for H channel retaining wall? 3May 22, 2012 9:23 am You havent mention how high the retaining wall is going to be. 200mm isnt much if its going to hold back a large amount of soil, and you need to make sure the hole is into solid natural and undisturbed ground and not loose soil.
