Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 02, 2012 2:35 pm We recently had our appointment for all the joinery and just want to check on something we were told. Our bathroom is not a massive space - there is some 1100mm between the shower and the bath for the vanity. I pictured the vanity sitting against the bath, with a small gap next to the shower, but the joiner wants me to have a small gap either side of the vanity as he said it won't get as destroyed by water that way. I don't want to lose too much benchtop space, and also have concerns about cleaning in two very small gaps. Do you have your basin butting against your bath hob and has it caused any problems at all? Re: Bathroom design help please 3May 02, 2012 4:05 pm we have wall hung, that might work better, cos you can clean under it. Re: Bathroom design help please 4May 02, 2012 4:39 pm Not a huge fan of wall hung vanities, and being so small a space anyway, I would rather have that extra shelf..especially as my girls get older, think bathroom storage will be a definite plus. Re: Bathroom design help please 5May 10, 2012 6:39 pm I cant think of anything worse than tiny gaps to have to try and clean. Dont do it! Re: Bathroom design help please 6May 10, 2012 6:53 pm Ours is against the bath. There is no sign of water damage after 2 1/2 years. We had the same at our previous home and there was no damage after 12 years. Re: Bathroom design help please 7May 10, 2012 7:06 pm thanks fairyblue am meeting with joinery man on Monday so will confirm it then Re: Bathroom design help please 8May 20, 2012 10:06 pm Prob a bit late but just wanted to let you know that my vanity sits right up against the bath and has done do for the past 5 years and there hasnt been any problems with water damage. I would be more concerned with having to try and clean some gaps. Plus vanities can always be replaced Re: Bathroom design help please 9May 21, 2012 10:33 am Thanks bendo. The cabinet guy came to the site last week, once he saw the small space he agreed to butting it against the bath for me. All 3 items listed are defects and are of concern.
