Did anyone add a pull out bin to the kitchen? Undecided at this point... Oh and pot drawers. Yes or no? Hi Amanda, I could be wrong but I believe that Sampina pretty much do most if not all the cabinetry for Dech. Therefore drawers in the ensuite robes, laundry, linen cupboards, vanities etc are all done by them I believe but let me know if I am wrong!. We are thinking of adding a pull out bin in the kitchen and we are having 15 pots drawers- we think that there is more usable space but gee I fell over with how much they cost $$$! We are considering a bank of drawers for the ensuite vanity too and are currently undecided re drawers in the powder room. Have you also considered a pull out laundry hamper? Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 44Jul 26, 2012 11:24 pm AmandaC At Sampina, do we have the opportunity to possibly add drawers in the ensuite robes or is this done somewhere else? Did anyone add a pull out bin to the kitchen? Undecided at this point... Oh and pot drawers. Yes or no? I am also thinking of changing the vanity cupboards to two full length drawers, almost like small pot drawers. What does everyone think of this? Either that, or I am considering adding drawers in place of one of the cupboards. It's all happening.............. =) We were going to add two towers in our WIR - 4 drawers on the bottom with 4 shelves above, about 600mm wide - but at $1k we think we do cheaper buying something from Bunnings or Ikea. Drawers under the vanity is a good idea. I've seen them in some display homes, they will have a niche in the middle to go around the drain pipes, but is do-able, although I shudder to think what Sampina slug you for it. We are probably going to get pull out wire baskets on runners to go in the vanities - seen similar at Ikea, or Howards storage world, although Ikea was cheaper. Ditto for pull-out bin - will do it ourselves later Selections was fun, but draining - then there will be a long wait for something to happen. I've read some threads where the people had forgotten what they selected, and had a surprise when they saw it in the build!! Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 45Jul 27, 2012 11:02 am Sampina is your place for that sort of thing. We had a tower of shelves added and extra rails in the WIR, 2 drawers added in the ensuite. We also had a wire basket added in the laundry. 6 pot drawers in the kitchen. We had a tower of shelves added and extra rails in the WIR, 2 drawers added in the ensuite. We also had a wire basket added in the laundry. 6 pot drawers in the kitchen. And if you don't mind me asking, how much did you get charged for the extras? Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 47Jul 27, 2012 11:59 am i looked at inserts drawers/baskets from ikea for my bathroom and pantry, but the cupboards are not an exact standard size. i think ikea was something like 60cm, 90cms, etc. ive survived without i also had a quote from sampina for our WIR, but didnt go ahead, i did get one from the people who did our built ins for the kids, image robes, but we havent found a need to go ahead with it yet. I found with the wild orchid kitchen, i liked the 'lines' of the cupboards, that all matched in and lined up, pot drawers is a personal preference i guess. the only thing that puts me off is all the handles, or to the kids.....ladders! i found that dechellis charge for them doing the main floor tiles (600x600) was quite high, even with a cheaper tile, eg, the labour was high, and i wasnt willing to pay for someone who i didnt know the quality of their work. the tilers that did our bathrooms hardly spoke a word of english, overall they did a good job (good, but not flawless) the only issues were with the small feature tile, which was ripped off and redone, but it was hard to communicate with them, they gave a cash price for the main floor and when the email on the buisness card didnt work....i wasnt willing to take a chance with my main flooring Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 48Jul 27, 2012 12:55 pm Hi Monaco, We chose for the floor in bathroom inc ensuite, not sure of the name but number is LM3202 recitified (300x300) and the wall tiles for same, L95032 rectified (300x300). We also chose a brown tile, Stoneworks Crust, polished porceline rectified (300x300) as a wrap around tile, mimicking how it was designed in Display. That was a non standard tile, the other wall and floor tiles were in the standard range. We wanted the tiles as Displayed, but they had been discontinued and we thought they were the closest match. We are getting a family friend to do the rest of our floor tiles, we went to International Ceramics and picked out a 600x600, it's called Lucky Star. I am umming and ahhing about the kitchen bin, I like things to have their place and this seems like a logical solution. We are going to add pot drawers to kitchen now I think. LynneY, what was the cost roughly of the pot drawers, if you don't mind me asking? We had considered a pull out laundry hamper, but now that it appears that this will up the cost at Sampina, it seems like DIY is the way to go. But we're not that handy and I'll worry that it won't turn out. We want to add: Two pot drawers to kitchen Instead of cupboards to both vanities, change to pull out drawers Pull out bin to kitchen Pull out laundry hamper Shelves to WIR ensuite. DingoD64, I saw the niche in the drawers, I think it will work too. I have had a look online on bunnings and I think it's a in house visit to get the idea! Where are you thinking of going for the pull out bin? Stage#2 - I too would be curious to know the cost of what you have listed if that's ok? Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 49Jul 27, 2012 1:31 pm From memory, drawers are approx $100ea and the towers in the WIR approx $350ea. I cant remember the hamper, but I really wanted it. Loved the bin for the kitchen too, but we had to draw the line somewhere, and I will get one from Hafele later on. Also consider whether you would like soft closing drawers - but this will cost as much as a pot drawer (per drawer)!!. We will be getting soft closing drawers and also looking at getting soft closing cupboard hinges too which I think some people might think is overkill. We currently have soft closing drawers and cupboards in our current kitchen and so we can't live without them! We are going 'soft closing' crazy as we don't like hearing the sound of cupboards and drawers banging. Hubby and I don't really argue so there's no need to slam cupboards LOL Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 51Jul 29, 2012 10:01 pm A decision has been made! We are going for two pot drawers, drawers instead of cupboards in Vanities, laundry hamper and broom cupboard in laundry. What is chosen at the A & L windows appointment? We have had included in our contract price double glazed windows to meet with 6 star energy rating and we want the external window finishing to be the same as displayed. What can anyone tell me about this appointment. I only ask because we are so far away from Adelaide and we are strapped for time LynneY Amanda - They have quoted us about $106 per pot drawer. Hubby and I don't really argue so there's no need to slam cupboards LOL Thank you for this cost Lynne, not sure about the soft close drawers, I guess it would be beneficial for when little ones come along, but that's the only benefit I can see with this. Purely in relation to price!! Would love though! Stage#2 From memory, drawers are approx $100ea and the towers in the WIR approx $350ea. I cant remember the hamper, but I really wanted it. Loved the bin for the kitchen too, but we had to draw the line somewhere, and I will get one from Hafele later on. Stage #2, can you please tell me about the towers you have selected in your WIR? I checked the bin on Hafele, how would it be added later on? I'm presuming that the door will open out as normal? I'm imaging a pull out door for the bin, like the pull out pantry door, so how would it be added later? I am considering the same thing, as we think $500 is abit much for a bin and if it works out how I am imagining, I'd be inclined to do this too!! wildorchid I found with the wild orchid kitchen, i liked the 'lines' of the cupboards, that all matched in and lined up, pot drawers is a personal preference i guess. the only thing that puts me off is all the handles, or to the kids.....ladders! i found that dechellis charge for them doing the main floor tiles (600x600) was quite high, even with a cheaper tile, eg, the labour was high, and i wasnt willing to pay for someone who i didnt know the quality of their work. the tilers that did our bathrooms hardly spoke a word of english, overall they did a good job (good, but not flawless) the only issues were with the small feature tile, which was ripped off and redone, but it was hard to communicate with them, they gave a cash price for the main floor and when the email on the buisness card didnt work....i wasnt willing to take a chance with my main flooring I love the lines of the kitchen, the laminate on the cupboards. I think I ,saw on your photos WO that you decided to not have handles on your overhead cupboards? It looks great! What is everyones opinion on LED downlights?? I have been doing research on them, again we are getting a family friend to put them in for us, but it is confusing as to brightness, how many required etc. And cost is a huge variance! We took note of how many on the display, but I am not sure if we need that many. I am sure the asthetics and WOW factor were taken into account when Dechillis had the display built. Don't get me wrong, defiintely keen on the wow factor, but if not as many needed - great!! Has anyone had a quote from Dechellis partner Decorator Bug for curtains/blinds? We're awaiting our quote.... Thank you everyone! Love your opinions and experiences, it has been very helpful! Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 52Jul 30, 2012 3:11 pm Hi, yes we dont have handles on our overheads, i love it, that kitchen just had sooo many handles! we have LED downlights and yes they are 10 times more expensive, but we got them for the power savings. in regards to brightness, i cant tell the difference between the led and halogen. we have 4 in the kitchen and 8 in our dining/family (even though ours is a bit different shape, i dont think you need more than 4 each area, and also depends if you use lamps in lounge areas) we are going thru decorator bug, we have placed our order 4 weeks ago, so i think we need to wait another 4. I did shop around a few places and theirs was around the same mark. it wasnt cheap, but not expensive compared to some others. definately worth a visit. Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 53Jul 31, 2012 10:36 pm Photo time! Hoping they actually work! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is our portico and alfresco tile. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is our splashback tile, it will be layed horizontally, with miminal grouting. It will be rectified also. It is a metre long tile, which looks amazing on display! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ A little hard to see in photos, the large tile is our floor tile, it has a speckle through it and actually is slightly darker than in picture. The kitchen cupboards are in natural Oyster Linea, with the wall colour being Pelt and cornice and skirting in Parchment and Essatone benchtops on New Benzyatine. Very excited!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The brown tile was not in the standard range, not sure if it comes through but it has a diagonal movement through it. This will be our wraparound tile in the ensuite, very much like the Wild Orchid Diplay. The middle tile is our wall tile which will be layed vertically and tile on far right is our floor tile. We're having the same tiling in the main bathroom, minus the brown tile. The benchtops is New Cairo. I hope these links work! What does everyone think?? Amanda Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 54Aug 03, 2012 4:27 pm very nice! are you doing oyster linea in the bathrooms too? Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 55Aug 03, 2012 8:40 pm That is an amazing splashback tile, I don't think I've seen one a metre long before, how wide is it? I look forward to seeing them in your kitchen one day The rest of your selections look like they will go really well together, nice choices https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 56Aug 16, 2012 8:45 pm wildorchid are you doing oyster linea in the bathrooms too? WO, yes we are. It looks really different with the different type of essatone. dreamcometrue That is an amazing splashback tile, I don't think I've seen one a metre long before, how wide is it? I look forward to seeing them in your kitchen one day The rest of your selections look like they will go really well together, nice choices Thanks Dreamscometrue! It actually saved us ALOT, about $1200 which was a credit from splashback. Nearly six hours at Dechellis at Final Selections on Monday just gone. Wow, loads to go through. But feel so much better now. We had a little issue with Sampina, the girl who took our selections, her level of service unfortunatley was not great. To those building with Dechellis, the other selections places we visited, were amazing service. Gave us hints and tips an just went that extra mile. But all sorted now, we were able to correct/add things in the final selections appt. WO, in relation to the curtains quotes, we went to Flair curtians and Blinds and they were 2500 cheaper. Same fabrics, brands etc. Def pays to shop around! So all go from here! Just waiting on banks final docs and should be good to go or 18th September! Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 57Aug 16, 2012 9:04 pm Woo hoo!! Great news ... agree with your note about Sampina ... blooming hopeless - so frustrating ... can't wait to see another Dechellis build For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 58Sep 21, 2012 9:25 pm Hi everyone! It's been awhile... BUT we have dates yipee! Officially started on Tuesday 18th September, we have confirmation from Dechellis they are preparing the pad next Thursday 27th September, digging trenches the following Tuesday 2nd October and pouring slab on Monday 8th October! It's all happening! We have had massive drama with bank over the last week. They valued our build at $410k and when we added all of our extra quotes, curtains/electrical/tiling/shed/carpets/paving on top of the cost to build and paying out existing block loan, we would have needed to borrow approx $400k. The bank was not going to help us with the extra quotes due to the value of the build against the loan ratio, plus we put in approx $50k when we bought the block back in April. So the bank is covering the build only Plus we still had to pay mortgage insurance! I remember that mortgage insurance was only factored in when the LVR was 100% lend! Wow, things have changed, our lender told us that when the LVR is anywhere from 80%, there will be mortgage insurance. Which means we are now saving and budgeting for all the above extras instead of nice new furniture. It seems to be the common theme amongst our friends that are building at the moment, not a great deal we can do about it. I hope everyone is going well and your builds are going smoothly! Amanda Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 59Sep 22, 2012 4:27 pm Great news that your build is starting not so great about the finance problems though Our slab has now been poured and the frame is expected to start by the end of next week https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building the Wild Orchid by Dechellis 60Oct 03, 2012 1:05 pm Hi Everyone, my partner and I visited our block on Monday and saw the work below! http://i1268.photobucket.com/albums/jj5 ... 010561.jpg It's so exciting to see it's all starting.
