Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1021Sep 26, 2012 2:42 am Tarsha, thats pretty huge natural variation. Hopefully Austral can help in some way. If you get stuck I can forward you some pics of 2 storys in our estate as there is quite a few that colouring. What colour mortor have you got ?? Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1022Sep 26, 2012 7:14 am Tarsha - Our Boral brick seems to have a variance from the display wall, and to houses Boral gave us the address of. Our sample bricks didn't seem to match any of them. Can you ask Austral for houses that have had your brick laid recently and a while back as a comparison? Our bricks have changed from Freedom to Leisure I convinced DH to take the Brick to Austral at Beresfield and they agreed that something has changed and they are ridiculously different. A couple of phone calls and an email later and the new bricks will be delivered tomorrow and ready for our Brickie to start on Friday Big Big thank you to all of you for your advice. Definitely gave me the confidence to push the matter and made me feel like it wasn't just in my head My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1024Sep 26, 2012 9:16 pm Wow. And no major delays, great work ! Look forward to seeing those go up. Dusseldof - I'll remember the magic of collective positive energy in case I need some help over here. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1028Sep 27, 2012 10:14 am Congrats Tarsha We also had a win today after long consideration I decided to lodge a formal complaint about the slow admin and nokeeping to their timeframes...and whatdya know...we received our plans within the hour who says it doesn't pay to complain or bring certain matters to ones attention as I like to say Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1029Sep 27, 2012 12:33 pm Some progress here too ... they went through our 27 Page Manifesto, and all barring a couple of questions relating to the concrete prep required for under the hoist, it came back with little green ticks next to everything. Quick call to hoist provider who said "meh I'd believe your builder I'm no concrete expert & they have to warrant the house after all" and it's all looking good! So now we await the next iteration. Not sure if they're redrawing the plans as well as adding prices for the stuff we have requested (or at least privision for them, they apparently can't nail-down prices until after the colours consult). I guess it's possible the pricing might come back ridiculous; but I'm kinda hoping we won't have that predicament, because the costs for some of the things we asked about were lower than we'd been told previously (eg. $50 for each extra double power-point - I'm sure that's way less than we've been told before!). Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1030Sep 27, 2012 4:15 pm Tarsha - great news on the bricks. When i read your comments, I thought they must have been making the bricks from another brick pit, hence the different colour. When we looked at Boral one of the bricks we looked at the women working there told us that the colour for the new bricks would be different as they were coming from a different pit. Forg - great progress. At least you have all your 'must haves'. Have they given you a time frame as to when they are going to come back with pricing. Belle n Dave - I think the squeeky wheel does get oiled. I do complain when things take longer than they should. I think if you dont say anything they forget. It is like my job at work. In accounts when you are allocating funds, you pay the people that scream the loudest. It shouldnt be like that, but it works like that. Well we are having some delays too. I was grumpy on Monday as Rawson said the plans would take until Wednesday to come back. They didnt come on Tuesday. They didnt come through yesterday either. I have been told that they will be coming through before COB today, but as it is now 4pm, I am not holding my breath. I am annoyed by this, but at the moment I have been given a daycare freeby of gastro, so a little too weak to fight it. Still no electrical appointment booking, we go away soon, so there will be no time to have it before we go away. With the delay of the plans, the DA is being delayed as they are waiting on the plans as additional information needed. The good news is our valuation has come back all good - hey it is worth an extra $2000 than we are paying for it. With Maree emailing a copy of the contract yesterday we have unconditional approval and CUA have a rate cut tomorrow, so we have 5.7% fixed for 3 years, which we are happy with. Jen - Once we were given the go ahead to book in electrical, we had a 3 week wait before we could see the consultant, as they do a heap of other builders. Hope you get given the nod soon. Our kitchen and bathroom cupboards went in today. I'll update my blog tomorrow when I get a chance. It looks really good. Everything has gone as planned this month, the SS has come through with his timeline. Kitchen was a day early too! We'll have to get our October time line soon! Luckily my mother on law has an A3 printer and is printing me off a copy so I can go and get copied and take into the council tmw with the HOW certificate. That is everything the council needs to issue the construction certificate at the same time. Hopefully we will have that through early next week. smorgzzz - thanks for that. I have told Maree that she needs to get onto the electrical consultant ASAP. I have come to the realisation that it doesn't matter if they are slow with the appointment. As per the contract they must be on site within 20 working days of the construction certificate being issued. Great progress on your build. Have you been given any indication of handover times? Austral had an excellent turn around. The solution was decided yesterday arvo and within 24 hours they had taken the horrible bricks and delivered the new ones. I try to avoid complaining but sometimes you just have to Forg - hopefully all of the pricing comes in well for you I'm crossing fingers and toes for you Jen - Excellent news on the valuation and hopefully they get you in for the electrical soon. With the bricks the explanation they gave was that the bricks we originally picked from were really old but they thankfully didnt try to use that to fight us on it they were great Smorgzzz - can't wait to see the blog update I've been following your timeline and comparing lol I'm off to Sydney to see a shoulder specialist tomorrow/today so I should sleep (plus we are going to cirque de solie tomorrow night!) We are going out to the house tomorrow before we leave (it's no longer the block!!) so hopefully will get to meet the brickies My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1035Sep 28, 2012 1:13 am Oh and another exciting thing, SS mentioned to hubby the other day that if everything runs to plan with no problems there is a small chance he could have us in by Xmas!! Crazy!!! Although I'm not banking on it lol I was planning for Feb/March My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 1036Sep 28, 2012 6:32 am Good luck with your shoulder specialist appointment. Hopefully you get some positive news. I can't believe that you might be in for Christmas. Even if they don't make it for Christmas should be not long after. Was your contract 40 weeks? Make me think that maybe we might be in for April/may which would be good Smorgzzz if they are keeping that kind of times maybe your end November isn't unrealistic Feeling better today so off to the council this morning with the plan changes. Disappointed that the tiny changes made and the basix information which was written as a table on one of the pages took nearly two weeks to do. We'll speak with our SS about when he thinks we'll be in today, our lease is up on the 8th of November, and we haven't spoken to the RE agent as to going week by week. I've updated my blog with photos of the stairs & kitchen. The bench is longer than I thought it was going to be, because the display home has a smaller bench at the end. So I'm thrilled with how big it is! Jen - I looked at our timeline and our site was cut 10 days after CC was issued. I am in the process of trying to pick bar stools and pendant lights, I think we're narrowing it down. My husband is submitting our retaining wall plans to council today. Should take about 4 weeks for them to be approved. Fingers crossed it goes through smoothly, it's a 900mm high retaining wall at the rear of our block to give us a level yard.
