Browse Forums Building A New House Re: New House - Tradies Using Loo?? 45Mar 11, 2012 6:24 pm Was interested to read this thread, as I've just had a walk though my house (tradies left doors unlocked) and found the ensuite toilet splattered with poo, despite the "do not use" signs taped on to the toilet seats on all the toilets. There has been a portaloo on site until a few days ago, as the house is almost complete. We only just had sewerage connected, which is partly why the signs were put in place as the toilets were not functional. Didn't stop the tradies using them, regardless. I find it repulsive and disgusting that no effort was made to clean the mess. And they had to pick the ensuite - despite there being a toilet in the power room right next to the front door. Don't get me started on the trades that have walked dirt on to the carpet, despite the sign on the front door telling them that no shoes are to be worn inside. Still picking up rubbish that the tradies have dropped all over the place too. They just have no respect for other people's property. Our builder is so against the facilities being used and has so much respect for his customers. Our builder wont even let tradies smoke in the place which is is what i would expect, but great that we didnt have to tell him thats what we wanted Re: New House - Tradies Using Loo?? 47Mar 11, 2012 9:41 pm We've had a problem with tradies from neighbouring sites using our port-a-loo. They just walk onsite, straight past us (we're owner building) and into the thunder box. In the end my husband was getting so hot and bothered by it that he took to locking the hire fence while we were onsite....even that didn't deter them and they just pulled the fence apart to get in. Having experienced the indignity and rudness of our port-a-loo being used I could imagine that your situation is much more stressful. We have now gotten rid of the port-a-loo and hooked up a temporary flushing one inside that we'll replace with a new one when all the work is done. Re: New House - Tradies Using Loo?? 51Mar 15, 2012 9:05 am I emailed the Victorian Building Commission, and they pointed me to this WorkSafe link http://www.worksafe.vic.gov.au/wps/wcm/connect/f7bd950049703781a80fafe458ebd3d1/Portable+toilets+on+worksites+FINAL2.pdf?MOD=AJPERES WorkSafe Workers need to have access to clean, hygienic and conveniently located toilets at all times. If it is not practicable to provide access to permanent toilets, which is often the case on housing construction sites, portable toilets need to be provided. It seems to suggest that the builder is allowed to remove the portaloo early, as soon as a permanent toilet is accessible. Which is what they have done at my house now, however they failed to ask if we want tradies using our now secondhand toilets. There is also no toilet paper, nor toilet brushes, hence the revolting poo mess that is still in one of the toilets. The tradies were also using the inside toilets when the portaloo was still on site. Public toilet less than 5 min drive away. This is their workplace. Would you consider is reasonable or practical when you are at your place of work to drive to a public toilet whenever the need arises?? The house is pretty much ready for handover - not expecting any trades other than a painter doing touch ups. Mess was made in the ensuite toilet while the portaloo was still on site..... This means we will be cleaning up all of their mess! We did say no thanks, you can clean all of the wet areas and we will think about the rest depending on the discount offered! Re: New House - Tradies Using Loo?? 56Mar 17, 2012 10:56 am As a builder myself, I think it is extremely unprofessional for the builder to remove site toilet before handover and a show of disrespect to the owner. Builder is paid to provide temporary facilities until the end and there is no excuse. I would try to get vengeance by going to their displays homes etc.. and doing an 'upper decker' - that's where you do your business in the cistern. Re: New House - Tradies Using Loo?? 58Apr 18, 2012 1:40 pm if you are that concerned get them a port aloo , im not a tradie but have helped on occasions i think as long as they leave it clean it should not be an inconvenience if there pigs then that's a different story . In my experience the nicer you are the better they work and driving to go to the toilet will only delay your home being finished . Re: New House - Tradies Using Loo?? 59Apr 25, 2012 10:34 am Its not the tradies fault if the portaloo is removed. Been human myself I understand when you gotta go you gotta go and holding sometimes isnt an option. The tradies would of left a mess because there is no brush or paper to clean... I more feel sorry for the tradies. Im sure the people complaining have a lovely toilet 30 seconds from there office desk always available. End of the day you will always have friends, family and friends of friends over after handover so it doesnt really matter if the toilet is used before hand over. As long as it is clean and respectable (and in brand new condition) on settlement day it shouldnt matter. http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: New House - Tradies Using Loo?? 60Apr 25, 2012 5:17 pm There have been no workers onsite for 6 weeks & with all the rain the porta-loo on our site has sunk into the ground onto quite an angle, not sure where tradies will go when work does resume, most of the building sites near us are close to completion so that's not an option...
