Re: pics -my dark bamboo floors 8Feb 09, 2012 10:16 pm Heh Guys thanks for all the comments.. the texture is a pressed metal feature wall & I painted it white (so the same as the old fashion ceilings). stole the idea from the tv show offspring... the wall is a grey british paint called silver treasure (yeh kind of looks blue in pics, but more grey in real life upkeep, not to bad just use a microfibre broom & occasional mop, saying that we are not living there yet, but I am currently living in a house with white tiled floor, so I sweep every second day anyway... goodluck with all your builds, unfortunately we will be putting this one on the market in 2 weeks as our current house has not sold, but if we can make a profit will def be building again... have hired furniture going in next week will post some pics after that Re: pics -my dark bamboo floors 9Feb 11, 2012 5:04 am Wow - your floors are stunning! And I love the feature wall too! And I love the grey paint you've used. All in all - looks fabulous! Just a quick question - sorry if it sounds silly. I am really keen on having bamboo floors, but have been told they're not suitable for the kitchen, yet I see quite a few pictures on here where it's benn used in kitchens. Were you told it was ok, or did you just decide to use it anyway? I really, really want to use it. Building at The Ponds (NSW) in 2012! Were you told it was ok, or did you just decide to use it anyway? I really, really want to use it. Hi limesoda, Timbers, Laminates & Bamboos are all fine in kitchens. There is an degree of hysteria surrounding the use of timber or like floors in kitchens. Fact is they are not wet areas and are considerably less prone to high humidity than bathrooms and laundries. I'd you spill water on your floor, you just simply get it off in a reasonable time frame. In the case of tiles you need to do the same as people slip ! So it's not a big issue. Generally the people who advise against it probably don't sell it or have an agenda of some kind. So you can buy bamboo, timber or laminate, and lay it in your kitchen, just always remember that water is not good with these floors and when you spill some just wipe it up. Besides all that, it will be covered under your building insurance anyway. Your local Harvey Norman store will be able to show you a bamboo that looks just like the one pictured, as well as a range of timbers and laminate floors too. Thanks Hi gogo65, Just to clarify for you, Naturally Bamboo from Harvey Norman has 10 coats of Klump Aluminum Oxide, a highly regarded German coating system. Because of this, the surface coating is warranted to not wear through for 25 years. This is not to say it's scratch proof or anything, as all floors can scratch, but it says you won't wear through the surface coating from regular domestic use for at least that time. The product underneath the coating, the actual bamboo, is warranted with a lifetime structural integrity warranty. We are confident that it is equal to, if not superior, to any strand woven product available in Australia today. I'm curious if the darker floor will show the signs of wear or damage more so than the lighter bamboo. 1 thing to remember with Aluminium Oxide coatings on Timber & Bamboo, if you do damage the surface, it is alot more work to repair. You can't give Al Ox a light buff or sand & recoat. I was fairly sure the Al Oxide coating look worse than Nano Technology Coatings when scratched as they chalk or go white on the scratch. I maybe wrong, but investigate it. It will require a full sand back to the bare Timber or Bamboo & then recoat with several coats which can not only be expensive, but you may find that your floor sander might not want to touch it. Ask a Floorsander & see if they can guarantee a finish that you will be happy with? SRT Coatings using Nano technology are more friendly in my opinion. ARC Bamboo is my Personal preference.
