Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Air Con Help 2Jan 29, 2012 3:10 pm I can't comment on split system wall mounts, as we got ducted aircon. Our house is double storey, and our package with the build included all the ducting done, that saved me a lot of money and hassle as it made the installation post handover a lot easier. With so many rooms to cool/warm, having so many split systems I'd imagine will cost quite a lot. Perhaps get quotes for both types. With my ducted system, we were able to break it into 4 zones, Master Bed, other beds, living/dining/kitchen, separate living, we normally just turn on the zones we need. As for piping, there's only 1 colourbond pipe coming from the outside aircon unit to the eave, then connected to the ducting unit inside the roof. All looks fine as they made it the same colour as my rain water pipes so you really can't notice it. hope that helps Re: Air Con Help 4Jan 29, 2012 3:18 pm We had no choice but to get our split system installed during the building process because the head unit is mounted on an internal wall, as in on the other side of the wall is another room. Regardless of that it would probably be easier for the electrical component to be done during construction too, although most split systems are installed to existing buildings so it wouldn't really be a drama. One consideration might be, do you really want it installed before handover if it doesn't really have to be, to stop any risk of it being stolen? Geoff - Decophile. Re: Air Con Help 5Jan 29, 2012 3:33 pm pattycake4 Hi Jimnsal,is your aircon evap?. Hi pattycake4, no, we have reverse cycle from Daikan. I would not know the difference between the 2 types, but we've been very happy with it so far this summer Re: Air Con Help 6Jan 29, 2012 7:46 pm We had the same as you want but a 5th unit in our study/lounge room. The air con company did the rough in before the plaster went up and completed the job after handover. It was no problem at all. We just asked the builder to let us know when the plaster was going in and then booked the air con people. We have 4 small units on one outdoor compressor and the larger unit in the kitchen/family/meals on a seperate unit. The company we used is Specialized Heating & Cooling. 1 Production Road Melton, Vic 3337. P: 03 9743 7633 They also have an office in Hoppers Crossing. We took our house plan to them and they worked with us as to how to do it all. You will more than likely need permission from the builders to allow them on site during your build. Also remember the rough in is not insured. We had the request for the aircon to be done during construction by our own contractor written into our contract with the builder. It is working a treat during this summer. We can turn on whatever room is needed at the time. Good luck. A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. I got it from Camberwell Electrics in Melbourne for $10K. Had rough in installed (hoses and electrical wiring only) before plastering at 30% deposit. Will have to pay the rest after hand over when they install the actual system. If u get the whole system installed after handover instead (or after plaster), you will have ugly hoses installed outside your beautiful brickwork. If ducted, it would have costed $20K+. If you have it installed before plaster, then hoses and electrical wiring are worked into the frame, rather than the outside brickwork. 13-08 Moved in 13-05 Build restart 13-04 VMIA compensation 12-08 Builder liquidation 12-03 Fixing 11-12 Lockup 11-11 Frame 11-09 Slab 11-09 Start 11-07 Contract 10-11 2K deposit 10-06 Titled land Re: Air Con Help 8Jan 30, 2012 10:36 am We got ducted air con added on to our ducted heating to 12 points in our 36sq single story home for $10K. That includes upgrading the heating system, as the ducts need to be slightly larger for aircon so needs an upgraded heater. It has 2 zones, bedrooms & living areas. You can only operate the air con one zone at a time however (reduces the cost of the system.) It was slightly more than that but we got a rebate from the builder as they were going to include evap cooling. Still, I'd pay an extra few grand for ducted over multiple split systems - I'd get a quote from your builder to do add on air con & see how it compares. Retrofitting multi units is also harder unless all the heads (indoor units) are on an external wall. Ducted systems can be zoned to each room if required. Many installers would prefer to have the pipework on the outside of the house as it is accessable for service etc. As mentioned it is covered by downpipe style material called trunking. The best approach is to get quotes done by the builder and 3rd party's and make your descision from there. How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5832 Hi all, sorting out the ducted air con for a 350sqm double story house.
