Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 19, 2012 6:15 am Good Day Guys I got a Merbau Decking done and left it for 5-6 months for Tan to wash away. Bunnings advised me to use "Intergrain Ultra Deck Oil". One of the Handy man who gave me a cheap quote said he would use "Tinted Oil". Are they both talking about the same oil? I would like to get natural, timber finish on this deck. Which oil to be used? Please advise. Thanks NiMa Re: Merbau Decking - Which Oil 2Jan 20, 2012 6:40 am Hi Guys I have not received any recommendation from you guys, so I contacted Handy man who give ma the quotation. His reply is below if anyone is looking for information regarding this matter: "A natural oil will give you a natural look so if the deck has faded it will only give you a better faded colour. If you want a look like new then you would use a merbau tinted oil, this will give you some colour to the deck. Intergrain is a brand of oil as is Cabots. Please advise if you want a natural oil or a tinted oil". Thanks anyway. Re: Merbau Decking - Which Oil 3Jan 20, 2012 6:47 am Hi, My brother was advised by the builder to use acqua deck as it is the best product and he used it on his own deck. I don't believe they used one with a tint in it. Also used the acquadeck cleaner as well. The products are a bit more expensive and are available in bunnings. Hope this helps. My husband is going to build a deck out of merbau on our alfresco but we have western red cedar coloured bifolds and sliders, and not sure if natural merbau will be too red. Re: Merbau Decking - Which Oil 5Jan 22, 2012 12:07 pm Hi Guys I got my Merbau decking oiled as recommended by Handy Man. He used tinted oil as explained above. It is little bit darker than I thought now but think it will settle and back to Merbau original color after a while. Will post some pictures in near future. Re: Merbau Decking - Which Oil 6Jan 22, 2012 12:41 pm We used Feast Watson decking oil in 'natural'. Great results. Hi, as per the subject. Does anyone have any recommendations for the best value decking oil (Bunning is close to where I live) for a treated pine deck? Thanks 0 10970 I'm about to put down some Merbau. Is it necessary to oil underneath the boards before laying? 0 1921 Use a product like Equisol's Vitalise to clean the deck then coat with a penetrating timber oil. It will look 10 years younger and add value to your home. Visit for… 1 15765 |
