Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Dec 03, 2011 10:40 pm Hi everyone, I have a problem with spiders making my home there home, they seem to be setting up shop within the brick morter, we have spider webs all over and around my home, we have sprayed our home but that just made them move further up away from the treated areas, now im trying to figure out how to remove them from the walls, im thinking a pressure spray but our home is a 2 story house and we have hundreds upon hundreds of spider webs, if I was to spray the bricks wouldnt the rain wash it off and just be a waste of time and money? looks so ugly, any ideas? Thank you. Re: Spiders taking over my home 2Dec 04, 2011 2:37 pm already sprayed the house with what? flyspray or a barrier protection spray(mortein barrier?) ___________ Started design Aug 2011 Plans submitted to council Dec 2011 Re: Spiders taking over my home 3Dec 04, 2011 5:27 pm Fly spray, lol, good one! Yes we had a pest control company come and spray around the "out side" of our home with a protection barrier for pests like Ants, Spiders and Cockroaches. I dont know what chemicals they used, I think its been around 5 years though since then so I think its time to spray it again and im looking for quotes now, if anybody is in that kind of business please send me your company details with the web link if available and I will look into comparing a few quotes. Location Reservior 3073, Melbourne. Thank you. Re: Spiders taking over my home 4Dec 04, 2011 6:00 pm Tome the insecticide that was used 5 yrs ago would have lost it's potency by now...at the most you can expect it to last for 1 year (or maybe a bit longer) so you've done quite well. There is no point in washing the spiders off at the moment, because they just retreat into cracks and crevices and come out when the house is dry. Fly spray is not strong enough to kill spiders unless you spray each spider and that's not feasible on a single storey house, let alone two storeys...and yes, the rain will wash off the fly spray you are applying. You need to be a registered pest controller to buy the chemicals used by professionals (for good reason) so best to contact a couple in the yellow pages for quotes. The spiders will be attracted to your house because insects are around windows/doors/etc where you have lights at night. More than likely they are common house spiders/daddy long legs or similar none of which are harmful, just leave messy webs. If you have frogs in your garden they will eat the spiders and for this reason I don't worry about spiders unless there's a redback where you don't want it but even they aren't deadly. Not sure this helps? but if you still want have the house sprayed let your fingers do the walking!! Re: Spiders taking over my home 5Dec 04, 2011 6:12 pm G'day HappyCamper and thank you for all that wonderful information, but yes we have many of Red Backs and White Tails around my home, yes I think I will let my fingers do the talking its just that im new here on this web site and I thought id give members here in that type of business have a crack at giving me a quote first, I will wait a week and see if any members here reply with a link, else I will be yellow paging, thank alot mate Re: Spiders taking over my home 6Dec 04, 2011 6:30 pm That's OK Tome, although I'm not sure there are any pest controllers here, I've been out of the industry for a while and haven't noted any pesties here, but you could be lucky. Just make sure your kids know how to identify RedBacks so they don't poke and prod them as that's when they are likely to bite. Normally they are a shy spider and won't be a problem if left undisturbed. Even if they do bite don't panic, I've been bitten several times and don't even bother going to the doctor or hospital although I wouldn't suggest you do that unless you are very aware of the symptoms. Re: Spiders taking over my home 7Dec 04, 2011 6:37 pm Great tips, thank you very much HappyCamper, we have alot of junk around my home as I am a swimming pool and spa builder and we have lots of pavers, bricks and bits of wood leaning along one side of the house, redbacks are all around the outside of my home but its only the Whitetails and Huntsmen that tend to find there way inside, not good Thanks again Re: Spiders taking over my home 8Dec 04, 2011 6:49 pm Aha, you have the perfect place for spiders to hide!! LOL Hey, don't worry about the Huntsman spiders, they are your friend!! Whites/reds aren't though. If I lived closer I would come and get a Huntsman or two as I love having them around the house, no need to worry about flies etc. When my son was 4yo (he's now an adult) he had a live spider collection which consisted of Redbacks, Funnel Webs, White Tails etc etc and we had to catch live flies to feed them, no fly spray was used in the house at all. His Huntsman spiders used to roam around the house at will, then go back to his bedroom after they had eaten. Visitors kept away from his bedroom!! LOL Re: Spiders taking over my home 11Dec 04, 2011 7:18 pm LOL Tome...I suspected as much but didn't want to scare you!! Re: Spiders taking over my home 13Dec 04, 2011 7:31 pm That's good....as long as you can keep one step ahead you're on a winner!!
