(Poll inclu 11Sep 06, 2011 2:14 pm Whoever is involved in your build, time will be a factor... as most of them say "if I had to contact everyone before doing something you wouldn't get a house built" The problem with that is that WE are the ones paying and living in it and WE should be notified of any changes etc..... If builders/draftsmen/office staff and whoever is working on our build did their job properly, I reckon there would not be as many mistakes. Re: Would you like to be consulted when......... (Poll inclu 12Sep 06, 2011 6:43 pm Ok, don't know of the other issues so can't really comment. And accept that these other issues have already set the 'mood'. In this case though, it sounds like he has actually tried to do what you asked. The size of an opening and all other structural elements cannot be changed once the plan is signed off without doing an amendment. You said put in the biggest he could, and I guess he has. He probably would have been better off just saying you couldn't change it. Normally, variations also cost $$. It seems like a communication issue both ways. If you told 10 people to build a swing, it's unlikely many would be the same, but they would all be swings. You both had an idea of what was wanted, just not the same idea Hope you can it sorted in a way that makes you happy Re: Would you like to be consulted when......... I work for a builder and we discuss and raise a variation for the client to sign for ALL changes, no matter how big or small. Even if it's not a change, but is something that was required that hadn't been discussed like in your situation, we will contact the client as well as raise a variation just to clarify it. Re: Would you like to be consulted when......... (Poll inclu 15Sep 07, 2011 9:49 am Thank you tjilpi, for taking an objective look. Generally that is the stance I try to take in these matters but I really have had enough of defending the things that aren't right. I agree that he has made a call that he feels was the right one, but it was misguided and really should have warranted some contact IMO. sleven & CA3105, I have emailed a variation request for 2 separate items being adding a header board to our WIR entry and the layout of our Pantry shelving (had to change the position of a power point also) I have still yet to receive confirmation of the request being received or advice n any cost incurred, the changes have been made/added in our house . It seems as though if I want something changed He is happy to make me put it in writing but when the shoe is on the other foot, He gets to decide how to do it. In the end, I don't think I'm going to get any result that doesn't end up in me paying to have it fixed. But I hope this thread will get people who have yet to sign off to make sure they have clauses added that their builder MUST contact them when changes are required that may affect the satisfaction of the build. The worst thing is we (wife and I) were starting to get focused on our move and I was getting excited (Wife has been excited for months) about moving in. Now I just have another thing I don't like and am starting to really hate this house. It'll be OK, I just wanted something to go my way for the first time in a year. Re: Would you like to be consulted when......... (Poll inclu 16Sep 07, 2011 8:25 pm Sorry to read all this Chris (assuming you are the 'chris' part of chrisandkate ). I hope you do manage to find some excitement and enjoyment out of it all again and are able to look forward to moving in. But, I can imagine how disappointing it must be and how easy it is to tarnish the whole thing. All the best with this latest 'issue' - I hope somehow it can resolve in your favour. HHCIB Re: Would you like to be consulted when......... (Poll inclu 17Sep 07, 2011 8:39 pm Long thread, so I'll read it later. I've already voted, but just to make it clear. I want to know when is he coming to the site with his other car (or his mate's car). I want to know where he intends to throw his rubbish from having the lunch on the site. I want to know if he intends to have a different brand of tea with his lunch. As for changing anything on the house, you can guess. This also goes for every single trader that you have to employ after the handover. My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Would you like to be consulted when......... (Poll inclu 18Sep 09, 2011 2:34 pm Quick update. Had a site meeting today and the builder seemed to understand it isn't just about 1 step after pointing out the rear yard levels and the drains and everything else. He admits the only solution is to raise the floor and we have agreed that an extra 100mm (whilst it will still be below the original plan level is the best solution going forward. It needs to come up 80mm to remove the required step an 100mm will make our rear yard levels easier to deal with. He has asked us to think about meeting at some point toward the middle for the cost which we are considering. He also admitted that a phone call would have been very easy to make. So I think this is a win. We will consider if we are prepared to meet at any point for costs. Very easy to sort out on site rather than over the phone as the current site levels spoke volumes above any example I could give without being on site to show him. Oh and HHCIB, yes I am the Chris of ChrisandKate. Everything posted under that name has been me.
