Actually, this weekend has shown how well our kitchen/pantry area works-we've had an absolute house full and catering for everyone ( with meals encompassing dinner, breakfast & baking for "high tea" ) was a breeze! Sorry about the hijack OP-please resume regular posting people! I can only dream of a WIP like yours. No, I'm afraid mine's a good old fashioned small pantry ( ). Here's a pic.... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ There is more to it than what you can see. The shelves extend down behind the door about another 500mm and they are full width behind the door (that section houses the ducted heating vent at the bottom). So you need to reach in a bit but it's not inconvenient or difficult (would be nice to have it all open, but it is how it is). The shelf on the bottom is where i am planning on fitting the microwave and toaster. But I will need to bring it down a bit as although both will fit, I don't think there is enough clearance for toaster not to scorch the shelf above. And currently, the shelves that you can see are only 300mm, I would extend the bottom shelf out to full depth of pantry (500mm) I would also then add an extra shelf or two below that for some more appliances (we don't have that many that we use often - mixer, juicer, food processor and maybe a couple of others?? But I'm just trying to figure out how much lower it would need to be (current space between shelves is 380mm. I don't know, maybe it is enough?? Given shelves above are not as wide so smoke or whatever could rise up past the shelf - if that makes sense. But no, I think some extra space will be required. Anyway, that's our little pantry. We do have options of being able to create a WIP somewhere else, but it all comes down to how much we want to spend on things like that - changing all sorts of things around just to get a bigger pantry???) But, they are nice (drool). HHCIB Re: Where's your toaster? 52Aug 15, 2011 1:32 pm My two bottom shelves are spaced 45cm apart and are around 50-60cm deep, then the two top shelves are 30cm apart and 30cm in depth (from memory). This allowed for the microwave and all other electrical appliances to sit on the bottom two shelves. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Where's your toaster? 53Aug 15, 2011 3:23 pm ooow, what a cute pantry. It is like a baby sisters to dees! what is with all the potatoes!!!!?????? I recon if you eat all the spuds, you would have heaps more space for 2 more shelves for appliances / things on your bench so you can have more bench space. try the toast on the shelf now, rather than putting it lower, not cutting the top one out at the moment.. maybe put a piece of formica on the bottom of the shelf so there will be no scorching. I recon you can sort it with what you have now..no need for a bigger pantry etc just re arrange that one more..put those potatoes down the end near the vent! Re: Where's your toaster? 54Aug 15, 2011 4:13 pm LOL Kiwi.... those boxes aren't actually full of potatoes (just one of them ) . DP gets the boxes from work and they are nice, sturdy, even shape and fit perfectly into that space, so they are great for using for storage in the interim until extra shelves go in (to be honest, most of them are actually empty ) . It's only the shelves that are there now that have extra shelving space behind the door. From there down (ie, where there are no shelves currently), the ducted heating unit sits behind the door so we can only put shelves in that area that you can see - not extending behind the door. (So as it stands, for eg, you cannot move those boxes up behind the door). But thanks for the positive feedback kiwi - makes me feel maybe it is doable and we don't need a bigger pantry. But given we would have to put in extra shelves, may as well move the current one at the same time to be a bit more 'user friendly'. We can't exactly try it as it is because we don't have power in there - yet. Thanks again, really appreciate it (and yes, my pantry certainly is the little sister so to some of those others ) HHCIB Re: Where's your toaster? 55Aug 15, 2011 4:23 pm oh, so you are not a wedges fan, mash...or maybe even some chips fan!! you can get cut off, off cuts from bench places. might be easier/ cheaper? you wont need much if you are not going the whole length due to the vent. good luck, I am sure that wee toaster will find a new home one day and you will get some much needed bench space Re: Where's your toaster? 56Aug 15, 2011 4:32 pm I have the toaster permanently hooked into a power outlet and on the corner of our kitchen benchtop - we use the toaster quite often and I'd liike to think that its quite stylish - its Italian... Re: Where's your toaster? 57Aug 15, 2011 6:14 pm I often found people had their daggy ones in an appliance cupboard, the ones with the tambour tec roller doors were good and an easy install ( got it down to 20 mins, I think lol!) The nice shiney s/s ones were always on display with matching kettle etc. Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
