Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Porter Davis homes 9727May 28, 2014 8:13 am Hey everyone, Just a quick question - how does handover work these days? I've been given the final invoice and been told they want to handover on Friday, but apart from that I haven't been told anything else. Do they usually book you in to come to the office still? Re: Porter Davis homes 9728May 28, 2014 2:21 pm Re: Porter Davis homes 9729May 28, 2014 3:55 pm MummaDJ hash_nanay Thanks FF but I doubt it. It looks like the tiles are actually different sizes between the 2 types. As mentioned, do you have your samples or yes, pop in to national tiles and get the samples. Re: Porter Davis homes 9732May 28, 2014 5:22 pm Absolutely furious with PD - it has been over EIGHT weeks since the spa has leaked down to the kitchen and it still has NOT been fixed. To make matters worse, PD committed to fixing it today but decided: 1) Not to show up 2) Did not bother to inform us that they could not make it until we chased them down So even though we confirmed last week, sent a SMS this morning to confirm as well, took time off work to be at home, we are still at an impasse with a non working spa and a hole in the plasterboard behind the spa. This is quite simply a pathetic display of customer care - we understand that delays may occur or that schedules may change, but to not even extend the simple courtesy of letting us know in advance is appalling. And for a repair to take over eight weeks and counting, again, it certainly leaves a bad taste in the mouth that once you've handed over your final cheque, you're no longer of any importance to PD. Now, I am one of those who would really appreciate your thoughts (+experience) on how to deal with this. Allow me to introduce myself, we are doing a knockdown & rebuild project on a sloping block. After having a look at many other builders we feel in love with the PD house designs and even before we purchased the block we asked PD for an inspection to ensure the site was suitable before closing the deal. We were told to expect extra site costs due to the slope, paid the deposit including soil test and went to tender. We had two tender meetings, since at the first our site costs and house position could not be determined. At the 2nd meeting we were presented site costs, including site cut, retaining walls, and drainage. Our site costs were significant ($56.000). But it was only after PD had done their site cut that we saw that our house would be significantly lower than neighboring properties, and we would need to build much more retaining walls than the ones included in the contract plans. In fact, we now need engineered retaining walls around our perimeter to make the house habitable. The problem is that once our garage is up, access will become really very difficult. We were never warned about this, but the retaining walls included as part of the house plans are clearly not sufficient, as you can see from the before and after photos. We would love to hear from anyone who may have had a similar experience or who may be able to provide some advice on what course of action we should take. This is breaking our hearts. Tile with better matching colour (left) vs Tile recommended by PD (Right) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We specifically requested the tile they have in their display home. When they showed us the actual tile during colour selection we told them this cannot be the right one. Later I also spoke to our BC and mentioned we believe colour is incorrect. Then they agreed to show us the tiles when they are delivered to the site. We went to see the tiles and confirmed PD the tile colour is wrong before they started fixing them. Our BC said they are the right colour in the photo can look different to it's actual colour. What is really frustrating is the very people we have to rely on to get the advise on selecting tiles is not capable of advising the best colour that would at least be a close enough to the tile we request. What we really don't understand is why they gave us completely different colour when the colour we wanted was beige. As you can see in the picture tile they recommended (right) is not even close to beige. What was your slope before construction? Also was it cut only or cut and fill. We have a 3m slope and a 900mm cut and fill. About to get final drawings, but like you, have been told that we won't need any retaining walls. Re: Porter Davis homes 9739May 28, 2014 11:02 pm bramsy @ sweet-home. But we asked PD to inspect our site for feasibility even before purchasing it. We were told the site would be suitable however with additional costs and some retaining walls. The problem is that we were not alerted to the number of retaining walls that will still need to be built after handover. Access to the back of the house will be very confined via the garage. Luckily, yes luckily we had a double roller garage door fitted giving access to the back of the house. We were not even advised that we would need this later. I don't know what I would have done if this was not included. I have attached below the general Notes on the house plan showing the different levels and cut.
