Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 05, 2011 8:29 pm Hi All Does any one have any brilliant cost effective ways to ventilate a WIR so to avoid mould etc? Ideally we would prefer something that was solar, wind or thermally powered rather than powered by electricity but that may be the only option? thanks in advance Loretta Re: Ventilating a walk in wardrobe 3Jul 05, 2011 9:22 pm we just put in the cheapest vent with some ducking pipe??? to an outside vent in the eave. it is always open so air is coming in/ out of the room. it is in the corner, on the ceiling right next to the outside wall...so not a lot of ducking pipe or whatever you call it, it was silver, was needed, maybe 30 cms costs nothing to run and about $15 ro buy. builder did it. so far ok, but we sometimes put the dehumidifier in there, just cos our wir is off the bathroom, not off the bedroom and we live in a VERY wet, damp climate. Re: Ventilating a walk in wardrobe 4Jul 05, 2011 9:44 pm Have you considered a skytube or skylight? There are lots of new skytubes/ skylights which offer ventilation options. Something like http://www.skylightsplus.com.au/skylights/ventilated or http://www.skydome.com.au/Skytube-Ventilation There are options to have mechanical ventilation systems installed on them but there is nothing better than a naturally ventilated room. Re: Ventilating a walk in wardrobe 5Jul 05, 2011 11:07 pm To add to Kiwi's suggestion of ducting, you could connect the duct to a small whirly bird on your roof if you want more ventilation. Reasonably cheap and easy to install. http://www.bunnings.com.au/products_pro ... nts&page=2 Success is the result of good judgment, good judgment is the result of experience, and experience is often the result of bad judgment!
