I'm sorry if I'm asking a questions that's already been asked, I couldn't find anything when I searched. And sorry about the novel, people seem to think what we're asking for is really weird...
We had a basic home theatre system set up with our projector with a standard DVD player and 5.1 speakers that we could plug into our projector (which has HD capabilities). The DVD player had 1 set of standard AV inputs (the red, white and yellow cables, not the combined AV input) in it so we could plug our Wii into it, I also had a USB to AV cable so I could plug my laptop into it, and we could also plug in a wireless aerial transmitter into it if we wanted to watch TV on the projector.
The DVD player has died, and since the projector has the 1080 HD capabilities, we through it would be nice to get a Bluray player to replace the old DVD player to play HD movies, and still just plug in the stuff we used to as I mentioned above. We just want ideally a Bluray player with 1 set of inputs, either standard AV, the combined AV or HDMI (as it's easy to buy conversion cables), and maybe an aerial input too (not necessary), and output for sound. Anything else is a bonus. We don't need to get a whole new home theatre system as we're happy with the speakers.
We've been hunting around and we can't find a Bluray player, a DVD player or a home theatre set up to do what the old DVD player did. There just doesn't seem to be a set of AV or HDMI inputs on anything. We have been told a. to buy a receiver but it appears the starting price is $500 which is way too much considering we aren't going to use it's capabilities (and still have to buy a Bluray or DVD player too), or b. get an Xbox or PS3 and ditch the Wii but that means I can't plug the laptop or wireless aerial transmitter in, and also I love the Wii games and it's awesome playing them on the massive projector screen.
So I thought I would ask here as even my Google searches are proving fruitless. Does a Bluray or DVD player have inputs anymore? And if not, is there a budgo receiver in existence with even just one input and one speaker output that will do what we want?
