Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 09, 2011 12:31 am Needing some advice and opinion... I currently have a cypress pine floor, with carpet on top. I was thinking of pulling up the carpets, and installing a hardwood floor on top (Sydney blue gum). The new flooring will run into the kitchen as well, which will also be a new kitchen. 1. Is it a good idea to install the new hardwood floor over the cypress pine floor? Or should the cypress pine floor be taken out and replaced with Sydney blue gum boards? 2. Floor first, then kitchen, or the other way round? Re: Flooring advice please 2Jun 09, 2011 12:04 pm Firstly, why overlay something over the Cypress. Cypress makes a very nice timber floor and is the mainstay of most houses west of the Great Divide. I have taken to sealing it with a hardwax Oil and it comes up a million dollars. If your going over the top with a another timber, then look at overlay rather than normal 19mm boards. Overlay is just boards that are 12/13mm but has the same wear profile as normal boards. If you are going to go ahead then remove the kitchen, install the overlay, do a rough sand and then install the kitchen. When all the works are done (plumbing, wiring, painting, tiling etc) get the floor finish sanded and coated. That is generally the way I prefer to work Cheers Re: Flooring advice please 4Jun 10, 2011 7:53 am Yep staining is an option (a crime IMO), but still will get the effect your after if done well. Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 18029 A question. With the amount charged for the upgrade the builder is probably charging closer to 100% margin. There are a few variables as I… 5 14323 |
