Chatz Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 182Sep 28, 2011 7:57 pm Thanks for pic,can you please tell me how far off floor your unit is not the surround. Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 183Sep 28, 2011 7:58 pm Ger, sounds very exciting! 4-6 weeks till handover though? really? i think you'll be done before then! do you think they are just stretching it a little? I took a look at the pics on your blog - your place looks awesome Chatz, I agree with Ger ... i dont know how you find the time to put up so many great pics we do like looking at them though! Hopefully i will find out how to upload mine some time tomorrow. Mrs Chatz ... today i organised for free measure and quotes from 2 blind companies re: plantation shutters. I have set up a time for our supervisor to unlock the doors and let me in to meet with these guys next week. Now that I have done some more research into the design aspect of it all, I think maybe curtains may be more my style though? I am into the "candice olson" and "sarah richardson" look. Google their names and have a look at the images.... they are gorgeous. So now i dunno whether plantation shutters are the way to go, but i don't see how i can put curtains on the master room windows.... they are kinda awkward with 3 long narrow ones. if it were 1 big window that would be easier, or even 2 windows. Also, I have been driving myself crazy with ideas for wallpapering the bathrooms!!!! ooo its exciting. You thinking about wallpapering anything in your place? I am also regretting not putting in a fireplace. Does anyone have any idea how much it costs to get one of those modern fireplaces installed after handover????? You know whats funny.... we have never had temporary fencing at our block. and i am sure we paid for temporary fencing as part of our contract. maybe this is something i will raise with them? also wondering when do we get money back for things like 'no rock found' and 'safety costs' such as mud on road etc. i remember that all of these things were paid for in the contract. Trudy Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 184Sep 29, 2011 12:56 pm Well Trudy, thank you for providing me with a most enjoyable morning at work. I've had a lovely time looking at Sarah Richardson and Candice Olson articles and pictures. Some beautiful, beautiful ideas. I must confess that I am anti-curtains and always have been, although I'm not entirely sure why. I've always leaned towards plain and neutral for window coverings. In our first house it was cream vertical blinds all round (hey, it was 1999....) and our last house had super luxurious gold velvety drapes, which I gradually tossed away and replaced - most daringly for me -with textured roman blinds (coffee shades of course), with cream roller blinds upstairs. Soooo adventurous. I may be scarred by having grown up in the 1970s. My parents fitted out their brand new house in 1974 with blue carpet, orange drapes, a red stove and purple shag carpet in the bathroom. Shudder. I do like the "luxury" look of those designers and I love having throws and cushions all around, but I get cross when people (ie. my kids) move them and use them. I do need to let go a bit...... The three narrow windows at the front of the house are great because there's so little wndow to the street that there's no pressure to have everything covered up before you move in! Chatz is determined to have plantation shutters on those windows, which I'll go with, but which colour? A bisque/beige would work with window frames (and keep me going with my beige and cream...). White might look a bit statement-ish but could also be jarring, so I'm wondering whether a timber stain to match the front door would work? So much to think about and that's just one room! What do you think about shutters? The rest of the house will probably be roller blinds, doubles with blockout/sunfilters for bedrooms/study and perhaps just M screen types for the west side. I think we'll need external sunblinds on those living and dining windows, facing full west, but I know what we'll have there - we had great light vision mesh external blinds on the old house, not canvas, lots of light through still. They came from a1 blinds, I'll call them again. I'm impressed with your organisation, already lining up measuring and so forth, I need to do the same! Meeting the landscaper tomorrow to walk through plans and costings (could be very scary). Now I should do some work....but I love those pictures..........just a few more... Kate Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 185Sep 30, 2011 11:11 am Ah, i see you have crossed over to the dark side - where you can spend a whole morning just looking at interior design photos! Yes we have decided to go with white plantation shutters for the master bedroom. they will not only insulate, but wont take up as much room as the curtains would. we are thinking about getting those shades for the alfresco doors - the ones you said have that sunblocker underneath them? yes those. but i dont know if having those will clash with having curtains for dining room. i think plantation shutters would look great on both windows beside the TV. we also just got a quote for bamboo floors - it has come in way under what we expected so we are absolutely rapt. i cant imagine the carpet will cost a fortune either the place we are going to use is called 'carpet one' in eltham. they do bamboo as well as carpet so its nice knowing its the same person doing the whole flooring job. they also estimated the bamboo will only take max 3 days even better. going to have a look at the place now.... cant wait to see what's been done over the past few days Trudy Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 186Oct 01, 2011 8:31 am Hey all, Hubbub and I went to the house yesterday... We were so pleasantly surprised to see that all bathrooms were finished, heating installed, garage door on, plumbing done, all painting finished and most electrical done. All that's left is the remaining electrical, front portico render, kitchen sink and splashback to go in, flyscreens etc. HH thinks we'll have handover sometime in Oct and then we can get our floors done! Tempted to start packing. Trudy Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 188Oct 02, 2011 2:11 pm Kate, I just got an quote from HOME OUTLET for plantation shutters and I was extremely surprised at how inexpensive i was. im going to look into it and see if theres anything wrong with the product! Trudy Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 189Oct 02, 2011 4:38 pm Hi Trudy! I haven't heard of Home Outlet but I'll look them up. How exciting! I am going to accept a massive quote from a landscaping company tomorrow - very scary but it will be spectacular. No plants though, this is to get the pool area and retaining walls done, a massive deck that is level with the interior floor, side path stuff, pool fence, and front veranda surface and driveway. There's a huge amount of earthwork involved, the downside of starting from scratch. I had better get in fast and order blinds etc before there is no money left. They also quoted on doing a low brick front fence but we simply can't stretch to that yet. So pleased that you're close to finishing too. I want an actual date!!!! then I can start a countdown.... Kate Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 190Oct 02, 2011 10:40 pm Kate! Landscaping quotes... How exciting! Did you do some hunting around for a good deal with your landscaping guys? If so, would you feel ok about passing on their details to me? We r running out of time to get stuff organised. We have had great quotes and have decided on contractors for bamboo and plantation shutters. Carpet guys to be confirmed this Thursday. We need to sort out a fence too, we need wiring sunk under the fenceline due to our digging jack Russell. Trudy x Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 191Oct 04, 2011 7:43 pm Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 192Oct 04, 2011 9:57 pm That looks awesome! When do they say you will have your keys? I went to our house today... Flyscreens on, but still no kitchen sink or splashback. We ordered our bamboo for flooring post handover and they'll be ready to install Oct end/ start of Nov. Trudy Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 193Oct 04, 2011 10:46 pm The SS told me today that he will be doing the handover(previously he said it was someone from handover dept) and to expect a call next week. I don't think he normally does this and he is being very coy about dates. Chatz Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 194Oct 05, 2011 12:03 pm Hey Chatz, The boards look fab. They just bring it all together.. very nice indeed. looks like both of us are going through handover at the same time, our SS is handing the file over to Handover Dept before the end of next week, were very exited.... Trudy, sounds like your not too far behind either.. any Joy getting some images going? Theres some new images on our blog, Front , Garage door , Floor boards etc. hope you can have a peek.. Are you employing an Inspector for Handover ?.. Oh and guess what i'm at work posting this to you Ger Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 197Oct 05, 2011 12:11 pm Just had a look Ger - your place looks fantastic! I think your mini roller door is very cute and I wish I had one. That facade is stunning, great choice of colours. So exciting to be so close to the end. Kate PS I still blame Chatz for the fact I'm doing this at work. He's a VERY bad influence. Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 199Oct 05, 2011 3:08 pm hi everyone posting from work Ger, your pics look great... i really like your facade colour scheme.... very homely. Cant believe you guys are at handover stage in a week! I think we are still a little while off... maybe about 3 weeks at least. I'm gonna ask hubby to help me with the photo uploading tonight coz i wanna get some of my pics up here! Kate, I am seriously stressing out coz if we want plantation shutters before Christmas, we have to put in our order by this Friday (they take 6-8 weeks to come in) and I am not sure whether or not to get them put in the living and dining area or just stick with curtains. I think I have some homework to do. Trudy Re: Knockdown and building Henley's Talise Q2 - At Fixing 200Oct 05, 2011 10:01 pm Posting from home now We went around tonight to see our new back fence - well, the second half, the first half was done a few months ago - and there's a stern note on the front door stating that the place has had it's final clean and all trades must take off their boots or be recharged! Goodness. Still no bulkhead across top of kitchen cupboards though. Trudy, wouldn't curtains take just as long as shutters to be made? Ive been in touch with Home Outlet - very helpful, expecting a quote by email after I emailed the plan and a list of what I want! Thanks for telling me about them. Our nearest showroom is Cranbourne, but if the quote is ok I could actually drop in there on Friday because I'm going up to see my Grandma in Gippsland. And tomorrow we are signing the landscape contract. I didn't shop around too much. I tried a couple of firms that were recommended by other people but both were busy until next year. I found this company on the landscaping association website, they're local and have been very responsive and professional. I'll send you the details by pm. Completely over budget but we've agreed it's cheaper than divorce! We don't think we could take it on ourselves. I hope we will have a copy of the plan to share shortly. The house will "address" the street properly, apparently. Whatever that means!
