Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 24, 2011 4:25 pm Hey All I have a Denon Receiver (3310) that is currently powering 7 channels in the theatre. Now i have some wall speakers setup in the bedroom that i want to use to listen to music from the PC (Pc is connected to the Receiver via optical cable) so i go and plug them into zone 2 on the amp and then wondering why there is nothing coming out of the speakers. Anyway a day later i realise the error in my ways and feel like quite the retard. (amp has 7 powered channels so technically cant power 9 speakers) Moving on if i bought a cheap second hand 2 channel amp or receiver and connect the pre-outs from zone 2 to the amp in theory will i be able to use the theatre and 2 speakers in the bedroom at the same time? I would think yes but i have read on a forum somewhere that these types of receivers cant pass through digital signals through Zone 2. Anyone able to enlighten me on this? Re: Denon Receiver - Optical to Zone 2 multi room audio - he 2Mar 24, 2011 7:12 pm Hi, Unfortunately you have heard correctly. Digital inputs cannot be played in zone 2. You will need an analog connection from your PC, or you will need to use an external digital to analog converter. Do you know if an optical splitter would work or would it cause any issues? It has tripped Matt and I up during installs at least once before (a while back...). A digital to analogue converter will certainly do the trick, but then if the digital output from the PC is being used purely to get audio to the AV Receiver for this purpose then why not simply change that to an analogue connection? Re: Denon Receiver - Optical to Zone 2 multi room audio - he 6Jun 19, 2011 7:22 pm I believe the Yamaha RX-V1067 (and probably higher end models - not sure about the lower ones) has a 'party mode' which will output the same digital source to multiple zones, however will downsample to 2ch first. Not ideal and obviously means buying a new receiver but an option anyway. I ran into the same issue with using a win7 media pc for tv and music etc and not being able to output both analogue and digital audio from the pc (stupid windows limitation). Re: Denon Receiver - Optical to Zone 2 multi room audio - he 7Jun 22, 2011 9:38 pm Is this the case with the Denon ipod dock used as a source? and similar for other AV amps with non generic Ipod docks? And if AirPlay is the source? I know for Marantz stuff you can download their manuals from their U.S. web site.
