This is such a pain.... My SS is trying to sort it out ... no wonder so many SS / BC quit ... all the hard work my BC put in to make sure everything (plans n PCV's) are all accurate goes to waste since all the mistakes happen yet again during construction... Oh well.. I don't care how it is done.. but to whoever from PD is reading this post... I am NOT... repeat.. NOT accepting a dwarf wall at the top of my stairs.. when I clearly stated to my tender&contract presenter and made sure the draftspeople drew the accurate staircase details into my construction plans. And I KNOW it can be done without the dwarf wall.... I am not accepting a compromise just because someone at PD stuffed up! Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 892Mar 15, 2013 4:36 pm natasha8850 hey what do you mean dwarf wall, if you dont mind me asking? a small plaster wall which sits adjacent to the last 3 - 4 steps on the top of the stairs.. so the balustrades do not continue all the way up the stairway until it reaches the landing but stops about 4 steps short of the upper floor where it meets a plaster wall. Not something I wanted Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 894Mar 15, 2013 9:23 pm Sooo... after out for dinner, i went past the block at 930pm... late i know but havent been for a week!! It's hard to tell, but im pretty sure... they have put some sort of pipes right where we are meant to be putting the pool... and they were told not to do anything here!! as we planed a pool not looking forward to going back to look tomorrow. not sure whats going to happen if it is there!! bit worried Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 895Mar 16, 2013 9:46 pm OMG... If I didn't see it with my own eyes, I would never have believed something like this could happen...they sealed my fireplace openings (poorly done) with new plasterboard as I asked for provisions only.. Check out the blog http://mypdwaldorf.blogspot.com.au to see what the "genius" decided would be OK to seal into the fireplace area.... A freaking PIZZA HUT box.... no kidding... Lucky I went around removing all the bottles and cans that were sitting on the frame before plastering... who knows what other crap could have been sealed into my walls if I didn't do it... Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 896Mar 18, 2013 9:51 am Well I have lost the dwarf wall battle.... PD chose to overwrite the contract drawings.. ..my staircase detail plan clearly shows glass balustrades all the way to the top of the stairs. http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/u67 ... 17455c.png But when the stairs were built, they just added a dwarf wall to the top of the staircase. Their argument was "Oh the mistake was made by the draftsperson in the Staircase detail plan and all Waldorf staircases comes with a dwarf wall on the top of the stairs due to the stairs extending over the fridge space, as shown on the construction floor plan, which is the correct one, so we are going to ignore the staircase detail plan because we are saying it is wrong" (which I have attached and highlighted the area in question) http://i1327.photobucket.com/albums/u67 ... 6ee1b5.png So now its going to cost me $$$$$ (and quite a lot of it) just to have the stairs redesigned and rebuilt to have the glass all the way to the top. I can't help but wonder, if they just want to blame me for signing a plan that is EXTREMELY hard to notice one small detail there and pass the costs on to repair their mistake to me. I argued that the detailed staircase plan should over-ride that floorplan but they refuse to concede.. bottom line... PD seems to just pick and chose whatever is in their favour when it comes to a mistake in the plans.... so I am left with no choice but to fork out more $$$. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 897Mar 18, 2013 6:34 pm Finally have internet connection again . Well we have now moved in. A few hiccups along the way, but on the whole quite happy. Still a couple of minor things to be fixed. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 898Mar 18, 2013 6:39 pm If you are at the tender stage I recommend you look into some sort of sound barrier between ground floor and 1 st floor. I have notice that noise really travels way too well between the floors. For example when one of my sons jumps off his bed (I am talking about a light jump not one of those mega jumps kids can do at times) it sounds like a herd of elephants. Also when in the theatre room is someone when having a spa the noise below is quite bad. Headache provoking bad. Just one of those things you don't know until you try. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 899Mar 18, 2013 6:53 pm When you first use your spa make sure the jets are facing down. Now my long winded story of why. The first time we tried the spa it did not work. We were playing with the button and dials but nothing would work. So just a bath instead. Anyway the next night my husband checked on the outside and realised that the external power point was not turned on. As we were not sure if the spa was turned on or not we needed to fill it up (you can wreck the pump if no water in spa). But because the power point is up high I needed to hold the ladder while my husband climb the ladder. By the time we got back upstair our ensuite was totally flooded including the toilet. Because all the jets were pointed up the water was streaming out beyond the spa. But wait it gets worse. We mop up all the water with every available towel. My husband goes downstairs and discovers that one of our downlights in the theatre room was leaking a lot of water. Thankfully our SS answered his phone out of hours and told use what we needed to do to try and prevent water damage to our ceiling, which work. We had a bucket under the flow which continued on for quite a few hours. Needless to say the useless plumber (not the only thing he had stuffed up in our house) had not tested the spa. Grrr to that plumber.
