We've bought the couches and going to start looking for the bedroom furniture etc over the next couple of weeks. Really should get my butt into gear. Also, because this is both our hose we have to find a happy medium with the furnishings, Rob is a bit conservative whereas i like quirkiness too. I'm a bit eclectic with my taste, really love old school vintage, french provincial but want to keep things with a contemporary twist. We've got to revisit the PD website to have a look at the styles (we initially picked the colour palette from the urban mocha style) We'll work through it. I kinda don't want to think about it too much because i know i'll do my head in think if we wait until we're in we can have a feel for the space and then buy pieces specifically for those areas. If the house is done in October i'm going to take some TIL and make a long weekend of it to move everything in as i booked my leave for whole month of December thinking that the house would be done by then and now i can't change my dates because too many other people have put in leave! oh well it gives me a 4-6 weeks to really think about what we need and then when i have my 4 weeks in december i can go gung ho in getting everything just right for our HUGE new years/housewarming bash! We have started to mock up some drawings for the garden (i want as little maintenance as possible and dog friendly plants and we found a guy to do the driveway when we attended the homeshow so have to think about teeing that up. Speaking of landscaping, does anyone know a good, user friendly website to look at possible landscaping designs? They've cleaned up the site so we have a better idea of the levels we're working with. How's ur build going JPZ? what stage are you guys up to? Building Waldorf 44 with PD Feel free to follow our build progress - http://melnrobsknockdownrebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 427Sep 14, 2011 9:02 am Hey Mel, What do you mean by clean up the site? Did they do anything with the levels? My block slopes down towards the back and PD has 'overfilled' the front, leaving a whole heap of rock and clay (which my SS told me they will not remove). We're currently about to start painting, garage trusses just went up yesterday. Getting really excited... Haven't really gotten much info on landscaping. All I know is that we need to do the driveway, concrete around the service areas at the side, more excavation around the back and retaining walls on the back and sides. Was thinking of getting a landscape architect to design something. But might get the excavation and retaining walls done first and get a feel for the (lack of) space before deciding on what we want. We're thinking of going French Provincial yet contemporary. Hmm... Oh, and we started looking at lighting too. There isn't very much difference between the stores, nothing terribly exciting. Unless I've been looking around the wrong stores... Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 428Sep 14, 2011 9:37 am Bit of an update from me. So far this week has been really busy on site. -Bricking will be finished by Friday -Walls have been straightened; -Bath hobs have been built; -Electrical rough-ins has been completed (4 minor errors, pretty good I say); -HWS solar panels installed; -Data point and cinema room cabling completed; -Heating and air-con rough-ins completed; -New pivot door frame and temp door installed Couple things remaining which hopefully will happen this week is -bifolds and external doors to be installed - Wall insulation to be put in I have another meeting with our SS on Friday to discuss any issues before plaster goes up on Tuesday. I’m in absolutely no hurry to have the house finished, but I not know what to expect and it’s bugging me (coz I like to know everything). What should I expect from the plaster going up? I gather that this is the phase of the build which takes the longest. So far I am extremely pleased with PD, my Ms asked me if I think that we made the right decision by building with PD yesterday and I said ............ sh!t yeah. My dad reckons that they really good builders and loves going to the site daily to talk to the tradies. It’s good that he does that coz he keeps me up to date and also puts a face to the job. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 429Sep 15, 2011 11:43 pm you're going great guns Tony! The plastering itself doesn't take that long (should only be a couple of days) and then they'll start with the cornice, skirting and architraves which will take a little bit longer because of all the cuts. Then it's just preparing for paint. Ummm you're stairs will go in not long after plastering too. Unless I've been looking around the wrong stores... Hey JPZ, They basically just took away alot of the building debris leftover from the previous stage. Also i hadn't noticed before but they spread out the sand that was left over from bricking at the front. We have a fairly flat block - there is less than a metre slope towards the front. The backyard is pretty churned up and i am hoping that they will get a bobcat in to level it out a bit (wishful thinking? ) otherwise we'll have to call Rob's footy team in for a working bee to lug some wheelbarrows of fill away...lol. You're not that far behind us! you'll notice the delivery of garage roof tiles soon. I went around yesterday and saw the tiler packing up so thought they had started tiling and Rob said that when he swung by tonight they had laid out tile piles downstairs. They have fixed up the error in the kitchen (the appliance tower is in the right spot! Yeh!) Also a pallet of bricks and sand were delivered to site - this is a good indication to us that they are going to do repairs to the sills and some chipped bricks hopefully. We noticed when we walked around outside that the sills varied in angles on some of the windows (some seemed to sit flatter than others). Landscaping...i'm not allowed to mention that word in this house... But they sort of cut into the back and (over) filled the front and now the front look really high compared to the neighbours. SS said they will not take away any rock/clay/soil but just spread it around. I don't know what that means coz we might have to end up either carting it away ourselves or doing some sort of retaining wall.... Argh, landscaping will be a nightmare... It doesn't seem like much has been done lately. The painters started sanding and prep work on Friday but shooed my husband off saying the site is off limits... Hmph... Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 432Sep 20, 2011 2:27 pm Quick question to all building or have built the Waldorf. How may solar panels (collectors) were installed to your roof? Also what is capacity of the water tank installed (I think its 175 litres). I wondering if its ample for the house size. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 434Sep 20, 2011 8:43 pm tstr1a Quick question to all building or have built the Waldorf. How may solar panels (collectors) were installed to your roof? Also what is capacity of the water tank installed (I think its 175 litres). I wondering if its ample for the house size. We only got 1 solar panel installed because our house(the back) is north facing with 175L water tank. I am also worried that 175L is not sufficient for the size of the waldorf with 4 ens, 1 powder room, laundry kitchen and galley! Tiling is nearly completed, all the basins and toilets are in (and the toilets flush!), electrical is in.. 4 weeks to go MAX! yeah! Wow... Its looking awesome!!! So envious!!! It should get really exciting from hereon... I am dreading the packing and moving though... =) Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 438Sep 25, 2011 8:26 pm ooh yeah JPZ, not looking forward to the packing and moving either! a friend of mine just moved into her place this weekend and she had everything unpacked and in it's place in one day! I strive to be like that...it will never happen but i can dream..lol I am having a nightmare of deciding on pendant lighting! I have to speak to the SS about the positioning of the pendant lights but i am finding that all the pendant lights out there are really wierd and "jetson" looking or they are too feminine. I guess i want something that is a bit quirky, industrial, possibly stainless steel/chrome. Matt blatt has some nice bullet shaped ones but i'm not 100% yet. Anyone have any other ideas on places? Rob and i went out this weekend and looked at window furnishings and gave up after an hour - it's hard to decide without really knowing the room and also as much as i like the plantation shutters i'm kinda veering away from them. Looking at the roller or roman blinds but still haven't decided...too many options! We're lucky in that the rear of the house is very private and we can probably get away with having nothing on the dining, bifolds and back wall windows for a little while. Don't have to worry about our bedroom (although will have to think about the ensuite window - don't want the creepy old man over the back fence to be having free shows...lol) but will have to think about those rooms that face the street like study, cloakroom, bed 2, rumpus and bed 4. What stage are you guys up to JPZ? I love it and the nib wall blends perfectly. With window coverings we are on the same boat, might do dual rollers. Gotta find someone to do them cheap. Re: Building a Waldorf by Porter Davis 440Sep 25, 2011 11:07 pm thanks Tony! it does put ur mind at ease when you see the actual outcome. There is so many variations of the stairs as it is in all the display homes i too wasn't sure what the result will look like going off of a conceptual drawing but pretty happy with the outcome. Don't notice the little wall. I'm going to get teh details for the company that installed my friends roller dual blinds and i'll let you know if they are good price wise. Oh and don't forget the PD rewards participants too...speaking of which, i have to find where i put that card!
