Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 26, 2011 11:10 am I have an Amana 600L side by side intergradted model.
It it a good quality fridge/freezer with great storage capacity particularly in the doors, you can fit in so many items. I have had it for approx. 12 years and during that time have had a couple of repairs. However, it is no longer freezing and we have been quoted between $1,200 ans $1,600 to repair it. I think that is too expensive and I cannot justify spending anymore money on repairs. It is still working , it just doesn't freeze, so I am just using the freezer side as a fridge for now until I replace it. Does anyone want to buy it? I am now shopping to buy a replacement. I need to be able to fit it into a built-in cavity of Height 1760mm x Width 920mm X Depth 770mm I don't want to buy anything smaller than 600L and it doesn't have to be intergrated. Some of the side by side in this size have very narrow freezers which I don't like. There doesn't seem to be many brands available that have a suitable size. The only two that will fit are : Electrolux ESER6107SC and the Westinghouse WSE6100SA. I know that these two brands are made by the same company and are very similar. I have been told that the only differences are that the Electrolux has a better quality compressor and a better stainless steel finish. I am concerned as I have read some bad reviews from people who have had problems with both these models. Most bad reviews complain about fridges being too noisy, constant compressor problems and plastic shelves and drawers breaking, baskets or shelves collapsing when you put weight on them or handles falling off! I cannot get any unbiased advice from salepeople as they just try and push their products or the brands that they make more commission on. Can anyone offer any advice or assistance? Looking forward to a reply. I need to buy a fridge soon. Re: side by side fridge freezer 2Feb 26, 2011 12:02 pm I can't really help much..except to say that we have a side by side LG and we just can't fault it. Had it probably 6 years at a guess...quietest fridge ever and runs beautifully. It would just fit into those dimension you have, width wise anyway, and it's a smidge over 600 ltrs in total. Personally, I don't think I'd buy another side by side, only for the fact of both the fridge and freezer compartments being so narrow. That's the only complaint we have with ours. Otherwise we are extremely satisifed with it. Janice Re: side by side fridge freezer 3Feb 26, 2011 12:23 pm Thanks for your advice. I agree that the fridge and particularly the freezers on Side by side models are too narrow. We also looked at French Doors, 4 doors, Fridges with Top & Bottom mounted Freezer and although the fridges were wider the total capacity of freezer are a lot smaller. There were a few 700L models inseveral brands that fitted width and depth but were only 10mm-15mm too high! I'll just have to just get something that fits for now, alternatively, we may have to make alterations to the fridge space which I really don't want to do. Thanks Re: side by side fridge freezer 4Feb 26, 2011 2:54 pm I love the look of the french door ones too. But you're right, none of the freezers are all that big. I guess the ideal we would like are 2 stand alone units...one all fridge and one all freezer (pigeon pair). Don't know if it will happen though..lol. Of course, that will take more space. Good luck with your search Re: side by side fridge freezer 5Feb 26, 2011 4:02 pm I have the electrolux four door fridge. The freezer is easy to organize as everything is in draws. \ The fridge also good the way it opens up. Regarding noise. The fridge is usually very quiet. However sometimes i find it a tad nosier. Not too sure if it is only when it is very quiet in the house. The last time i noticed it when i got up during the night to make a drink. Regarding electroulx in general they appear to be the most energy efficient fridges on the market, because they are making use of other types of refrigerants.
