Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Jan 31, 2011 11:23 pm Hi all, We are in the process of organising our kitchen. Originally our builder quoted us $2800 as an upgrade for our Caesarstone bench top, this was on top of the price of standard laminate. We've decided to source the product ourselves and have been quoted a great price . Now we've asked the builder to rebate us for the bench top, the price he came back with was $3050. Price difference between upgrade & laminate bench is only $250..........what the?? We know that the price of a laminate bench top in our kitchen would be over $1K as we have almost 7 meters to cover. When I questioned him about this he advised me there was still a cost for the template...........$1K.........what the??? We smell a rat, & we're not very happy that the builder is being so dishonest about the rebate amount. If anyone/ kitchen people in the trade can give us some advice, would be grateful. Re: Builder will not rebate the correct amount for Casaersto 2Feb 01, 2011 9:12 am Builders very rarely refund the full cost of anything you delete to fit yourself. They don't have to give the full amount back as they do not need to disclose their costings. The template thing is utter crap and they should slapped for using it. Don't expect to get a full credit for anything the housing game, but be happy when you do get it. Most people don't get a credit at all for these things as they say they deduct it at the end, but it doesn't normally happen Re: Builder will not rebate the correct amount for Casaersto 3Feb 01, 2011 11:27 am Thanks for your reply, we do appreciate feedback, although it doesn't really help my situation. With the money that we save on our bench tops we would upgrade on our cabinets, so the builder would still be making money on us. Re: Builder will not rebate the correct amount for Casaersto 4Feb 01, 2011 12:53 pm I only got back a couple hundred for the laminate. I didn't expect anything so it was a bonus. sorry it doesn;t help you, but I don't think there is much you can do with the $250 rebate, is it still worth you sourcing your own stone & mason? if not, then get the builder to do it. will be easier afterwards. My mason didnt cut a big enough hole for my cooktop so he had to come back and make the hole bigger ater we had moved in. dust everywhere! Re: Builder will not rebate the correct amount for Casaersto 5Feb 02, 2011 4:30 pm I understand that not getting the full rebate for products you want to do yourself is common practice with some builders - especially all the big companies out there. This is one of the main reasons we opted to go with a smaller one. At the end of the day all comes back to karma - it will certainly come back to them for not being dishonest & it's just no right to have to pay for a product (complete bench top for the kitchen) when you're not actually getting it. I can't think of any other industry that this practice would be acceptable. Re: Builder will not rebate the correct amount for Casaersto 6Feb 02, 2011 5:41 pm Ours said $84 for cancelling laminate benchtop, which was disheartening. so ended up with Builder doing the CeasarStone for us. Thats a trick i guess Re: Builder will not rebate the correct amount for Casaersto 7Feb 02, 2011 6:04 pm I feel your pain I honestly think that most of us would be more than happy if the builder kept his builders margin which would be anywhere from 15% - 25%, as long as they rebated the rest. After all he had to spent the time organising all quotes to begin with. The trick is to get all the costing from the builder to begin with - this is the only way to get a full rebate. The other trick is to actually get the costing from them right at the start, I tried quite a few times with mine - next time I'll succeed Re: Builder will not rebate the correct amount for Casaersto 8Feb 03, 2011 9:35 am We did manage to get full RRp back on our appliances and heating, but as mr & mrs smith said, said we also went with a smaller builder. nothing to do with salespeole. you'd do well to read and ccomprehend the post before bashing away at the keys with some negative comment again. 4 5048 The HIA contract, in the term & conditions section states that "Commencment" is deemed when the drainage is started or the piers are dug or the slab is formed up (incase… 2 4803 I work with owner, he/she is my man on the ground and I instruct them when to visit the site and take photos and I have other tools in the bag. 4 9636 |
