Hi Guys,
I was wondering if anyone with experience can help me, i would be very grateful.
I've decided to undertake my own landscaping and have started planning.
I would like to build some rendered planter boxes at the front and at the back of the house and would like to have the correct method before going ahead with it. I have done a bit of research online but i cant find a set of good instructions on the particular process.
This is the sort of thing i would like to do (just an example, not exactly like the picture):
From my research this is what i have gathered, please correct me if im wrong anywhere.
Foundation
1. Plan out planter box dimensions and placement.
2. For foundation, allow 50mm on each of planter box (i.e. 500mm x 500mm x 500m planter box = 600mm x 600mm foundation)
3. 100mm thick foundation should be adequate.
5. Compact area, pour gravel. Use pegs to construct frame.
4. Pour 50 mm concrete, place reinforcing mesh, pour remaining 50 mm of concrete.
5. level and let dry (cover with plastic if too hot other wise pad might dry to quick and crack)
6. Leave to cure for 7 days
Bricking
1. brick 1st course. no mortar between bricks every thrid brick for wleep holes.
2. Make a Damp proof course (DPC). 2mm thick poly plastic. use mortar under and above DPC membrane (2mm plastic)
3. Continue building up planter box as normal until required height.
4. Use capping brick on top course.
Rendering
1. Render planter box using Cement Australia
2. Follow process and apply at least 5mm (or is 10mm better).
3. While render is still workable, smoothen out with sponge.
4. let cure for 28 days before painting render.
Water Proofing
1. Apply product like Crommelin CROMPROOF™ Bitflex on inside of planter box.
Also some questions:
1. Do i need to use any corner beads prior to rendering.
2. Is it a good idea to run reticulation line from beneath foundation into planter box to conceal lines.
