I must say I'm a bit uneducated when it comes to light bulbs these days - last time I paid any attention to them was when there was only one, the old fashioned globe (and the only question was whether to get the clear or the frosted one )! I think I'll have to make myself a list of all frequently used bulbs and their basic characteristics and take it shopping with me, as I just can't memorise all of them and hate calling sales people whenever I see a nice light just to ask them about bulbs. Can you tell me if this downlight needs a transformer? Does it look something like this with the bulb inserted: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And what do you mean with "a mix of single 4-foot 36 watt and twin 5-foot 58 watt, and varoius other lights from 11 to 1500 watts on the outside" - I mean, are these 4 and 5-foot lights the fluorescent tubes? Re: Shows us your *** LIGHTS *** !!! 8Dec 22, 2010 6:43 am Just found a useful page on B. site: http://www.beaconlighting.com.au/energy ... nswers.php I also find that some of the most beautiful lights (like the first one in my first post) have halogen bulbs and apparently that can't be changed. I think these also generate the most of the heat, such an "undesired feature" !! So, I'll have to work my way around this issue and select a light that doesn't use halogen lights - and that's going to be hard because they are so beautiful Anyone has any ideas? And what do you have that has 1500 Watts?? Flouro tubes come in two foot (usually 18 watts), three foot (normally 30 watts), four foot (36 watt) and five foot (58 watt). The two and four footers are pretty common, five foot fittings are common in supermarkets (look up next time you at Coles or Woolworths) as less fittings are required to be used to allow for end to end lighting in the rows. I've only seen one example of a three foot fitting, theres a hotel in Darwin where they were used for lighting above the hand basins but maybe this was the done thing in the early 1980s. I have a 1500 watt floodlight fitting mounted down the side of the house, it was a salvaged fitting from a industrial building, perfect for seeing if there are any "visitors" down the side of the house. Not the sort of thing I'd buy (expensive) but for a freebie its found a good home...protecting my home.
