I'm keen to get some of the Heritage breeds- I got the ISA Browns purely for their egg production in these early years. They are much more friendly than Millie though (our Wyandotte) - we call her our neurotic blnde! This area faces North-East so will get plenty of sun and being against the bricks should help extend the season with the generated warmth.... the sticks are to ensure that the dogs don't decide to sleep there!
