Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Aug 16, 2010 11:08 pm We have a flat front garden area as shown in the photo. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Our house is close to the beach. Our septics and leach drains are right near the front verandah of the house and right side of block, so we have decided to put some garden beds there. We will put lawn in front of the beds (towards the road). I have not grown natives before and unsure what shape to do the garden beds. You will see that we have double sliding doors at front so I think stepping stones across to the verandah would be good there. The widest part of the garden bed will be 4m (to the left of the picture, nearest the drive - which is where the septic tank is). I think it would be nice to have at least 1 tree in the front garden (although not in the way of the lawn where kids will play). What sort of shallow rooted tree would you plant with the natives? Any ideas would be great, thanks. Ps It needs to be as low maintenance as possible Re: Help with Landscaping please! 2Aug 16, 2010 11:11 pm In my experience no garden is LOW MAINTENANCE! I will hand over to FU since it is WA I went outside once. The graphics were alright, but the gameplay sucked! Re: Help with Landscaping please! 3Aug 16, 2010 11:41 pm I guess you have some idea as to what you want to use the area for however by the look of the picture I think I can work out the west is either from where you are taking the picture or to the left of the picture? I think I know where it is. Go have an early morning walk up at Kings Park right now. No people around at 7am and it is just alive with life then! Before all the people get there. Worth every second. Jot down plants you like or take photos with the name plaques next to them. Even with a bit of rain around it is just beautiful then I posted somewhere earlier a heap of plant links for ideas as to what they are and how to choose. If that front yard is west facing trees are going to be very hard to get going there but you can do it. There are loads of Metrosideros around those suburbs that have done well. Sheoaks too but get them away from the septic. Hibiscus tilleaceous rubra will do well enough. They have used em round the Fisheries building at Hillarys and they are going excellent. Shallow roots, leafy and colourful. Not big at all. Magnolia little Gem as well but it will look terrible for a few years and then look amazing. Feijoas will be excellent but getting big ones is hard. They grow fast enough though so a small pot will be fine. Ficinea Nodosa, Leucophyta brownii, Dryandra nivea, Hakea undulatum, Melaleuca nesophila, Verticordias, Westringeas, Lomandra Tropic Belle, Swan River Peas with their flame red flower show, dwarf Gero waxes, regular size gero waxes, local Kangapaw species, there's loads. I'll find the links. Hmmm, I have checked your past posts and it seems that you are in NSW, not WA as I had thought. It pays to show your State in your avatar.
