Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 501Oct 11, 2011 2:55 pm Tinkster, I see you have become a personal chef for you tradies. Is it honestly a standard to provide cakes/cookies/slabs of beers to get good quality work done...I thought that is what we were paying for? I was going to offer cakes/beer etc when I asked them to do something as a cash deal and they obliged and did it well...not for the standard build! I am a terrible cook...so it might not work in my favour at all! Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 502Oct 11, 2011 3:01 pm I wish we had been able to feed the tradies who worked on our house - they might have done a better job For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 504Oct 11, 2011 3:24 pm barb- I am SO excited about my kitchen, the rest of the house is cool, but my kitchen is the big deal for me!! mclaren- thats sucks, i hope its nothing that can't be fixed thristy- it FEELS huge! my mum kept asking how many extra kids we were planning, cos theres SO much room! thevans- I don't think its expected at all, they always seem surprised to see me. The way I figure is that it can't hurt. I bake all the time anyway, and I'm talking twice a week at most, its not a big investment. And if it keeps my tradies happy, as well as reminds them that this is my home, not just another job...I figure giving them a person to connect to the work might make them remember that this is my biggest investment, not just another day at work for them. I told my ss when I met him on site at the beginning of the build that I will be driving past multiple times a day (its between the current house and my daughters school), that I will be visiting often, but that I wouldn't be getting in anyones way and that I sometimes bring food to keep the tradies happy, and he agreeed that "thats always a good move" But like I said, every crew has been surprised by me being there with food and it TOTALLY changes their attitude. One day my 2yo insisted on getting out of the car when I was dropping something off. As I walked up to the block one of the roof carpenters was giving me a VERY unhappy look (I'm assuming related to the small child) until I said I was just dropping off morning tea and to keep up the good work, he then offered to get the boys to stop so I could go through and have a look- I said he didn't need to, I'd seen it the night before The brickies next door noticed I was feeding my brickies and made some comment about thats why they're working so fast (they started before us and we finished a good week before them) I don't think you'll get a bad build if you don't feed them, but you might get an extra good one if you do. ok, thats my 2..more like 20 cents worth my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 505Oct 13, 2011 1:17 pm So I guess it had to happen. My gorgeous black wall tiles for the ensuite are out of production They've tried the whole country and can't get any So DH and I will have to go in over the weekend and pick some more. But, I'm reasonably sure they've already made the cabinets and don't really want to have to pick tiles around those, so have put in a call to my clo (who, I swear, is never IN her office) really crappy! In good news- they should have finished the whiteset today, they had done all but the master bedroom when I was there last night, all looks so good with the white walls! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 507Oct 13, 2011 2:31 pm That sux re your tiles We had the same problem last week - called 2 days before tiles were due to be taken to site - had to pick new wall and floor tiles as the next run wouldn't be in the country till mid December. We picked our tiles back in December last year - cabinets had already been made and installed. The girl I spoke to at the tile place was really helpful and I think I picked new tiles which look ok......fingers crossed! Hope it goes well for you Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 508Oct 13, 2011 2:53 pm That sux big time ... and I bet the builder didn't offer you any recompense for their disorganisation For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 509Oct 13, 2011 11:52 pm Oh Tinkster...that really sux big time!! I'll have my fingers crossed for you that you find another tile you'll fall in love with! Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 510Oct 14, 2011 4:33 am No compensation offered, but while talking to her about the cabinets she said "well it's not your fault the tiles are unavailable" so I'm pretty confident that if we can't find a similar tile we'll be able to change the cabinets too, but it does suck, dh and I were just yesterday talking about how we can't wait to see the ensuite! Never mind, I'll drag my sorry butt out of bed on saturday so we can go pick a new tile! And of course I'l have pics! The REAL question is if my doors and windows will show up tomorrow (well, today I guess) and we'll have lockup! I doubt it, but stranger things have happened my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building switchthree90-White set started pics pg 25 511Oct 14, 2011 6:45 pm So, wandered down to the block this afternoon to find.. DOORS!! The wrong front doors mind you (should be stain grade, not paint) But still! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ They've cleaned off the tape from some of the windows so I don't think they are far away either. The rest of the doors aren't on site, and they seem to have fitted all the smaller ones today, but still very cool So not quite locked out, but nearly!! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building switchthree90-Doors!! Page 26 513Oct 15, 2011 1:17 pm So the bigger doors are what size? 870? Actually... What's funny is my in laws just built with RN and has very same elevation except for the portico top part. And guess what stained version of the door you are after. Re: Building switchthree90-Doors!! Page 26 514Oct 15, 2011 8:40 pm Duke- I dunno, I just meant they've done all the small doors- both toilets, store room etc.. Thanks barb, we LOVE it We couldn't find a single tile we loved today. Looks like they are going to have to wear re-doing the cabinets. I shouldn't have to have a tile thats "ok", specially given how much we LOVED our original selection..will fight that battle Monday I guess my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building switchthree90-Doors!! Page 26 515Oct 18, 2011 4:48 pm I am so sorry to hear about your tiles Tinkster I totally agree that you shouldn't have to put up with a tile thats just "ok" and hope you are able to find some that you love as much as the originals. Has the builder agreed to redo the cabinets? Page 26 516Oct 18, 2011 5:21 pm Not as yet SB, I'm waiting to hear back from them. I'm really depressed about it all, I've been picturing my ensuite that way for nearly a year now, my brain is having issue even imagining anything else In other news- the spa and bath were put in today. Page 26 518Oct 18, 2011 7:09 pm I'm up to date now, it's looking fantastic! Such a great floor plan for a young family. It's great to have a few separate living areas so you can escape, or keep the kids mess contained! Those doors will be stunning in stain. Love the spa! Wishing you luck with your ensuite selections. It's hard enough picking the first time, I really feel for you. P.S. How good are you, baking for your tradies! I think you're really doing yourself a favour there. It's good for them to see the build as your future home, not just a building site. I hope it works in your favour Jess Re: Building switchthree90-Doors!! Page 26 519Oct 19, 2011 8:15 pm Ok, so its official, they won't allow re-selection on the cabinets. We found a 'maybe' tile today, we're going to compare it to the floor and wall tile tomorrow and see how we go, tho, it is porcelain, and rectified, so it'll cost us, but given its the only thing we've found so far, we might have to wear it. They cleaned up the site today, including the garage, so I'm wondering if they are going to pour the garage grano soon, and there has been a load of sand delivered ?for the bath supports?? They don't seem to be doing much work this week, which is frustrating, twice I've driven past this week (with baked goods) and there's been no one there (which makes dh happy- more for him!) my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Building switchthree90-Doors!!
