Browse Forums Building A New House Re: WA people - painting question 2Jul 09, 2010 1:23 pm Builders are a funny bunch. Sometimes they can be quite happy for the owners to have works done during the build (such as painting, flooring etc) and others are quite anal about nothing being done outside their scope until handover. All you can do is ask really!! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: WA people - painting question 3Jul 09, 2010 1:33 pm Hey Jodie Trust all is well. Rizzo - Im doing floorboards that need to climatise in the house for a week before being laid which will also take a week and like you I need to paint prior. If you builder is letting you do floorboards just ask about the painting as well as I agree the order is important to get right. My builder does not allow this but then they allow pretty much bugger all, and I would be worried the walls and the flooring would be damaged while builder finishes other things prior to handover. I also have a free standing oven I wish to paint behind and floor underneath so if builder installs the oven ( and it is a big 900mm one ) that is great but then I have to uninstall it to get the paint on the wall and the floorboards under , or I can get them to install after handover ( plus after paint and floorboards which is a minimum 2 weeks if I can get paint done in a week while floorboards climatise ) then builder wont be in a rush to come back and install oven after 2 weeks so there will be a delay and I will move in without an oven which will suck. Hey , a day without a problem would mean I wasnt building a house right. If so, was your builder cool with it? We were planning on doing it after handover, however, my builder has just called me to say I can book our flooring to go in middle of next month, then we should have handover by end of the month. I don't really want the walls to be painted after the floors, so was going to ask the painter when he's on site. Just wondering how much it would interfere with what the builder has to do, but they are letting us do our flooring before handover. I will ask the builder after I've spoken to the painter, but just seeing if anyone else has done this? Thanks Re: WA people - painting question 5Jul 09, 2010 2:16 pm Thanks guys. I will definately ask. My SS has been absolutely fantastic, as I mentioned we were getting floorboards put in, and he said they would leave the skirtings off in those areas and come back and fit them after the boards had been laid. This was all meant to happen after handover, but he called the other day to say I can book the floors before handover if I want. Not to mention, the house wasn't due to be finished till October, but now he has said, all things staying on track it will be end August!! I still think it's rediculous though, that builders here paint everything but the internal walls! Then when we asked the builders to quote it, they quoted $13000 just for the walls, when we can get it done for around 5k! Just makes things a bit difficult hey. Re: WA people - painting question 6Jul 09, 2010 2:19 pm Oh and Echo, yeh, we have a freestanding oven too, which I was also wondering about. Thanks for the reminder to ask about that too Also, I think they are letting me do the floors just before they do the final cleans etc, so hopefully nothing will be damaged.
