Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 05, 2010 1:14 pm My new spotted gum flooring is getting layed and I am very concerned that they are using alot of small cuts. i have pull them up on it and they assured me it will come up great and plus it will be much stronger this way... I don't like been * to and I didn't believe this for one second. Any way they have agreed to start using longer cuts and have order longer ones in. I haven't any pictures but we are talking in some places 5 cuts in 4.3 mts! Its way too late to ripped it all up so have anyone got any advice how to handle this total disaster. thanks guys Re: offcuts used to do my flooring? 2Jun 05, 2010 2:17 pm Hi there. As we humans use old-growth trees for floors and other things what happens is they start running out. This pushes the price up- so that lengths are used that would have been discarded in the old days. I imagine that the flooring they are using is end-matched- meaning it came from the mill with tongue and groove on the ends. If so this explicitly means that these lengths were meant to be used. The floor you end up with will be every bit as good as if it were in long lengths, and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that you will have used this non-renewable (in a hurry anyway) resource in a responsible way. Relax and enjoy- it will be fine.
