Re: Pool Water Feature 22Jan 04, 2010 10:04 pm OK Bam, a few things. My advise is only suggestions, as I have no qualifications or experience in building this stuff, so I suggest you get some good advise fro a landscaper, inc Da Vinci. You are going to have to have some work done by your pool installer as well. Iam more than happy for members in the know to correct anything I type. A few things to consider. Type There are a few types to look at, including Sheet decent, projected decent and waterwall. The unit I am putting in is a projected decent. You will need to determine the size and dimensions of the unit, plus also the projection. You will also need to ensure that the unit you purchase is suitable for the water in the pool, IE salt or chlorine. I purchased and am installing the Aquablade, which is shown below. It is lit via 12 volt via a power pack. Have a look at Waterfeaturesonline.com.au where you can see what I bought. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Water Feed, You will need to get your pool manufacturer / installer to supply a connection for you to hook up the water feature to, and this should have a on - off valve and a pressure reduction valve, The on / off to turn it off, and the pressure valve to adjust the flow of water. This water feed should NOT be the sole method of water return from the pump. The feed should be vertical in the middle of the wall you will build. Pressure Pressure at the pump and pressure at the water feature unit are 2 different things. To give an example, the unit I purchased requires a pressure of 8500 litres per hour (LPH), so a pump or pressure must deliver that pressure at the unit. If not the water feature will be very noisy. If you look at the second picture, you can see that the water sheet is breaking up about 2 feet above the water line of the pool. htis one will be very noisy, and you should consider what you need to live with. A higher pressure will give you a fiull sheet to the water line and will be quieter. A an example, half fill a bucket of water. Then fill the rest of the bucket with a trigger type attachment. Repeat the same process but remove the trigger, so it is just hose, you will see that it is much quieter. Wall design and construction. You will need to determine what you are going to use to build the feature with. I suggest besser blocks as they are cheap, easy to install and can then be rendered. The hollow of the block make it easy for filling with concrete once Foundation. Foundation of the water feature, whether it be besser block or other should be wide and deep, with Reo embedded into it You can then build the wall threading the reo through the blocks, and then back fill with concrete. Have a look at this photo, you can see my wall under construction: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You can see the hollow blocks and the reo poking through. This will be will be filled once I have installed the pump. Note that I have turned the blocks on the ends 90 degrees for stability. A few other things. You will need a steel lintel above the feature, make sure it will take the weight of the blocks above. I would nost suggest going higher than 1 row over the water blade. Test it before you build above the blade, to make sure the projection and pressures are right. Also check for leaks prior to filling with concrete. Dont skimp on crap fittings, and make sure you seal all joins. When you install the blade, make sure the lip is at the final projection off the wall, not the edge of it. This way when you render the wall, the lip will be in line with the render, no recessed int the wall. If lighting it, dont forget power conduit. Hope this helps, or generates a lot of questions.
