Browse Forums Finishing Touch 1 Dec 08, 2009 1:31 pm Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has any advice on painting internal wooden window frames. They already have paint on them which I will need to sand back, I guess?? Please help! Re: Advice re painting window frames 2Dec 14, 2009 6:25 am Depending on what condition the existing paint work is in, will depend on how much prep work you have to do. 1) Sand back with a medium grade sandpaper 2) Wipe clean 3) Undercoat 4) Topcoat with a full gloss enamel paint. Hand-sanding is the pits. Our old place had nasty dark brown matt finish paint on all timber trims and I wanted nice cream gloss. It took some work - I had to sand right back to bare timber - but it was worth it. Get a couple of different sized paint brushes too - there are usually a few surfaces of different widths to paint and it's a pain trying to do it all with the one brush. I know a Master Painter who would disagree. I used it on the skirting in my place, have had no problems at all. It doesn't yellow like oil-based enamel either, it stays a true white Re: Advice re painting window frames 8Dec 16, 2009 6:10 am Dukekamaya Michelle Dukekamaya Enamel is available in water-based now - much easier to use and clean up Not as good..... Well, you’ve tried it, I haven’t so I’ll be quiet now…….. "don't knock it till you've tried it" ? For your reference Performance Labels: Window assemblies in housing, except timber windows, must be labelled so the label can be seen when it is in situ. For timber… 6 7716 That sucks! Hope it all works out. Good to move away from steel anyway for all your reasons, but it's also thermally poor. 16 17871 |
