You are gutsy to be going through all this on your own ~ you should be so proud of how you're handling things. Hang in there mate, it's *your* house ~ and despite the lightswitches being in the wrong places + missing powerpoints ~ it will still be s beautiful house + a great achievement. Your colour selections are g o r g e o u s!! My favourite laminex colours are Lustrous Elm, Stringybark and Fudge Stream ~ and you have all 3! Lucky I couldn't pick from Laminex as our builder uses Polytec ~ I never would have been able to decide! ~ cheers Frogger, J _______________________________________________________________ We're a knockdown | rebuild ~ Melb SE burbs Building modified version of the Fairhaven Glenaire Homeone thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28429 _______________________________________________________________ Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! We are off to the tile place for a squiz today in preparation for our colour appt soon. You must be relieved now that you've made your choice! Great stuff. Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! Love your colour selection ... we only had four lots of tiles to pick from and I tried to pick the least ugliest - during our selection we were never offered or shown any upgrades, probably our fault for not asking I hope that lock comes off soon! We can't get into the house cause it's at lock-up and that's bad enough but to not even get near your house .... that would drive me crazy Wishing you the very best for the rest of your build Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! Pics on pg 29 :) 591Apr 18, 2010 11:10 am Building is a huge learning curve isn't it Pebbles we're FHB's too and sometimes I think that your first build is just for practice so many little things you can overlook! Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! Pics on pg 29 :) 592Apr 18, 2010 2:07 pm Lex Cheers to that, Froggie!! Lovely card!! BTW, how can we doubt someone who showed - and all on her own - such skill in designing the floor plan changes! Never doubt a woman who can make every room bigger and more practical!!! I think you have done extremely well, and especially considering all the circumstances!!! Sorry about that Lex, your post most of snuck in when I posted and then I missed it Awww you're really to kind Lex, thanks so much for those wonderful words!! I haven't had many good tears so far, but that was one of them! Thank you so so so much!!! It has been one of the most challenging experiences of my life, the next closest would be leaving my ex and going it alone. Both were difficult but for different reasons, but this has frustrated me the most because all control has been taken away from me! The next time I build (am Im sure I will), I'm going to do it differently. I'm going to be the boss and I'm going to employee the tradies! I hate this not having any imput once you sign that damn contract. One thing I hate about my builder, you don't get to know anything about what you can/can't have at colours until you sign the contract. The colour selection is about 4 weeks after you sign on the dotted line! I've been so jealous of reading about people who have been able to talk to the tilers, the cabinet guys etc... I didn't even have an electrical appointment. I put on the plans where I thought the p/p should go and then handed that to my sales guy....that was it! I've heard they build good/sturdy houses, they better because I'm already drafting a letter just based on the customer service and its about 3 pages long already lol And I don't tend to ramble much hahaha as you can see lmao Whooooo look at that, my ticker has clicked over to 5 months!!! Any bets on what month I'll get in??? I think 7 at this rate! I wanted fudge stream in my kitchen, but I only wanted it on the back of the counter, then I was going to have a solid colour on the rest... but they wouldn't do it!! I was told it wasn't a display home and they don't do those things!! So opted for Lustous elm for all of them...its gorgeous!! What a pity your builder didn't use them!!! But the one you picked is really nice too Rowena Great colour selection Thanks for sharing as I've got ideas for our house! We are off to the tile place for a squiz today in preparation for our colour appt soon. You must be relieved now that you've made your choice! Great stuff. Hiya Rowena Thank you and you're more than welcome - I loved sharing them I hope you're having fun at the tile place!! There's so much to look at, saw some gorgeous tiles I would have loved, but had to pull back on that I've very relieved that is over now, I can't wait to see them go in!! Pebbles Hi there Frogger I've been watching your thread ... you've certainly been through some ups and downs with your build and handled it all really well, I've been really disappointed at the way your builders have treated you, I'm sure if we could all get together we'd definitely march down there and give them an earful ... hopefully it'll be all up from here on!!! But to not be offered any upgrades, thats not right! How are you to know unless you're told??? Before this I had no idea what I could/couldn't have. When/if I ever build again I will know better!! Thank you, I hope the lock comes off too. I'll find a way in, even if I have to dig under the damn thing lol Thanks for the good wishes Pebbles, you too Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! I wish I knew what I know now back in September last year. I'm more educated now on building and the next one should be a better experience!! Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! Hi MrsRose ... Yeah I think I'll build again, but differently Might wait until I've got someone to share it with too Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! Pics on pg 29 :) 597Apr 19, 2010 9:08 am Oh, thank you Froggie for your kind words (but not for tearing me up while reading them hahaha). I think so many of us identified with you for whichever reason (I think that you are in some way 'our darling' on this site and that everyone is watching this thread and cheering for you! ). One good thing is that all those beautiful houses that we drive past and admire most likely suffer from similar issues (that we learned of during our own or others' builds) and that there might be lots of issues with them which are simply hidden from the view. So, it's almost like "build your own problem or buy someone else's" At least we get an input into the design! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! Pics on pg 29 :) 598Apr 19, 2010 10:46 am I think your tile and cabinet choices are awesome! They are going to look amazing. I especially like how you have gone for a plainer feature tiule in the ensuite with the fudgestream, but I think its going to look anything but plain (if you see what I mean - less is more maybe?) Gosh if my builder locked me out and put sheets up so I couldnt see in, I would be scheduling weekly meetings all the way through! You really should do that. Re: Froggies build - tiles selection done! Pics on pg 29 :) 599Apr 19, 2010 12:46 pm Oh Froggie/Frogger! I have just spent the past 2 hours reading through this whole saga..........and I'm exhausted! I can only imagine what it has done to you!
