Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Sep 23, 2009 5:51 pm Things have got of to a bad start. Day one of our build and we get a surprise that we have to get rid of 400 tons of soil. I want to get rid of it the cheapest possible way. My house is being built in Western Sydney. Anyone have any suggestions? Troy Re: How do I get rid of 400 tons of soil? 3Sep 23, 2009 6:08 pm Possibly drive around newer housing estates and see if anyone needs clean fill (am assuming it is clean). Normally easier to import fill then get rid of - at least for free. We are on the top of all the excavation co's phone lists here in Newcastle as we take anyone's clean fill. We have taken so far over 2000 tonnes and still want more for landscaping. Unfortunately if you can't find someone in your local area like us you will be charged a fee to get rid of it - which can be extremely pricey. Some things are worth waiting for. I know I can do a lot better than that. digga, I need to get rid of about 100 tonne and I was quoted a lot more than $15/tonne. When you say you can do better, any leads? Re: How do I get rid of 400 tons of soil? 12Sep 23, 2009 10:59 pm Hard to give away and expensive to get rid of was our find. I was charged 350 plus GST per load. A load was 10 tonnes, this includes the cost of the loader. A good thread to check is viewtopic.php?p=258474 This whole soil removal thing is a major con. We paid $50 to import soil and $350 per load to export. You need to import to build up the site till the drop edge beams go in and then you need to ship the excess. At one point I said stop because it was killing me in cost. I intend to do teh Stalag 17 thing and spread it around the property a shovel load at a time. Good luck DanC Re: How do I get rid of 400 tons of soil? 13Sep 24, 2009 11:13 pm Hi digga 123, we just removed 100 tonne from our site due to a pool. It ended up costing us 2800 to get rid of it as i couldn't find anywhere to take it!! I put the details on a website (i think soil swap?) but no luck with that till after we moved it . Good Luck with it. The best price i got was $250 a load, to remove. (we are in western syd too) It seems that we are at the mercy of the guys who do the work...and its so hard to tell if we are being ripped off Re: How do I get rid of 400 tons of soil? 14Sep 25, 2009 2:00 pm Great... I've got 50 truckloads of soil that need removing from my site in the coming months. On another note. Did you know that if someone dumps 100 tonnes of debris (building refuse) on your land and you cant prove who it was then you have to pay to get it removed. Happened to a family friend at Mt Tamorine. Some *U*&^'s dumped a massive load of crap on their property, and with no way of knowing who did it. The council now is going to sue the people who own the land if they dont pay the 20k+ to get rid of it all. Sounds great doesnt it. Government should have it's head read. Re: How do I get rid of 400 tons of soil? 16Sep 28, 2009 11:53 pm Getting rid of soil has figures ranging from $15/ton to $40/ton. that's a big difference! What's a fair price? Anyone have any suggestions? It's aggrevating that the builder did not make you aware of this prior to contract. Did you check the wording in the contract, in regards to site preparation and excess spoils? It's all in the planning Re: How do I get rid of 400 tons of soil? 18Sep 29, 2009 11:53 am I suggest you phone all the trucking companys and or plant hire companys and get prices to cart away as they also tender projects requiring filling. I would say $15 isn't too bad as cartage is the big cost and it's not a massive amount. Thanks for your reply. I will just wait and see I guess. Trying to get some more information from our builder. 9 11727 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this. Most of Perth has class A (sandy soil), except for some areas near rivers or hills. 2 8270 We were lucky in that our old house was so small (86 square metres) compared to the new house, they were able to take enough readings around the old backyard house before… 8 24818 |
