Their termite barrier is a 100mm (i think) exposed edge along the slab of the house which is to be kept clear at all times, allowing you to see if the termites are invading. If you want concrete butting up to this you have to get the concreter to apply a protective film or mesh where the two meet. Leon Re: help! Concrete over termite barrier and silt pits 9Sep 22, 2009 5:54 pm OK I'm confused, I have TermiGuard and their green boxes say not to cover them as they are a refill point, but surely I can cover the orange pipe/whatever that surrounds the house?? They covered some of it themselves with soil 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Baically it looks like a drive way with a small greel square man hole in the corner. looks great plus there are screws on the top for easy access. I have my garden beds etc over the pipes. No problems Re: help! Concrete over termite barrier and silt pits 12Sep 23, 2009 11:43 pm Why aren't people using fully treated timber in the construction to avoid termites? Is there something about the treated timber that I'm missing? That's all the builder has used on our place, but then again it is a fully rendered brick construction, so no holes for termites to get in. Re: help! Sounds easy but for us our builder wanted an extra 7k so it was just too far out of our reach when we went through the list of needs vs wants. And with termite protection and regular checking the house "should" be okay if there's no gaps in the slab. Concrete over termite barrier and silt pits 14Sep 24, 2009 10:30 am Fair enough. It's all these little things that no one ever really thinks about in varying locations. For us, termite proofing wasn't even mentioned in the building schedule, but being rendered brick, I didn't even think about it being an issue. We got the fully treated red pine framing as standard with our builder. Hi, I had a barrier reef pool installed less that 2 years ago and the gel coat is already fading.
