good news, the bank has coughed up the debit interest and refunded the entire application fee charged. a small victory for me, esp when taken in context against the interest that will be charged on the entire loan...

You could be in some trouble as its your builders fault!! but check with your state revenue office Also, thats a long time!!, are you sure you have the right builder!! what a joke about the pump!! Re: When do we receive our First Home Owners Grant? 49May 30, 2010 2:56 am Hi all ... I guess I have some good news to keep anyone who has to apply for the FHOG Extension. We are First home buyers and brought titled land in Aug 2009 and signed building contacts here in victoria on the 25th of Sept, 2009 but did not have a Slab down until 2 days ago (Thurs 25th of May 2010). We had to apply for the extension purely based on stuff ups within NBG that meant we did not have a Slab down on our titled land within the 26 weeks period. But on Friday just gone we recieved a letter back from the Victorian SRO granting us the extension. Good news is they actually granted us an extension with our only requirement now, to have the construction completed by September 2011 (yes a 2 year extension from the contact date). We should have the construction completed by late this year so that will not be a problem. Just thought I would give some hope to the guys and gals out there currently applying for an extension or needing to soon. thanks We're building The Albany 330E with Casa Design & Construction via National Builders Group See how we are going here: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32694 Re: When do we receive our First Home Owners Grant? 50May 31, 2010 12:55 pm Great - thanks very much for that news, TheAlbany. We've very recently had to apply for extension of time ourselves, so I'm happy to hear your good news... hoping that the SRO will be willing to greenlight at lease one more extension! Out of curiosity - how long was it in between applying for the extension and receiving confirmation of it being accepted? Thanks! Re: When do we receive our First Home Owners Grant? 51May 31, 2010 2:47 pm Here's what happened with me: 1. I paid land and building deposit from my own money 2. I paid remainder of own money towards land purchase, bank paid the rest. 3. Bank paid all of slab payment 4. FHOG appeared in my account (and was promptly moved to online saver account) 5. At frame payment, bank paid about $10k less than the invoiced amount, instructing me to make up the rest using the FHOG. The end result is I have $22k from an original $32k of grant still sitting in my account for later stages. I'm considering popping it back into the loan and redrawing later, as I have no offset account unfortunately. And the post-tax interest I get from FHOG in the online saver is way less than what I could get by offsetting against the loan. BTW we weren't quite on time with the 6 month limit, we were about 7 months, but our broker said that wouldn't be a problem, and the FHOG arrived as expected. Thanks! I actually took about 5 weeks to get a response ... I was ringing every week but it didnt make it any quicker. The day i rang, the guy at the SRO decided to have a laugh with me. I asked him about my applications progress, and he told me to go check me letterbox. I did while he was still on the phone with me, and sitting in the bottom was a letter from the SRO, i told him i got one and asked "does that mean im approved" in a bit of excitement while trying to open it .... He said "open it and have a look, and there it was "Your request to have an extension to the First Home Buyers Boost has been approved". I said to him, you knew that all along, and he said "yeah but Its good to see people happy when they open their letter if approved" Sort of out of the professional side of the was he should be over the phone, but I was not fussed. I have only recently applied for an extension for my FHOG. Now the land is about to be titled and we will definitely settle before we are granted the extension. Questiion is does the bank require FHOG contribution on settlement, or they will ask us to pay one of the progress payments? Lastly is there any heads up I need for settlement, any surprises, any huddles. first time always makes one nervous. If the FHOG is part of your deposit then things may be different. In any case you should be bugging your broker/bank/conveyancer to give you precise figures on how much you are expected to contribute. Then make sure you have a few thousand extra in case they revise the figure. At our settlement, the bank forgot to authorize their settlement agent to actually settle! And the settlement agent decided to tell us this on the day of settlement!! Luckily our solicitor was on the ball and bullied the bank into settling on time.
