I spoke to the Builder this morning and have also sent him the photos that I have posted up here. He said he will be meeting with the bricklayer on site to see what happened as he can see that it is misaligned. He knows we are very unhappy with the results and said he will do what he can to make us happy again. He said worse comes to worse he will demolish the bricks and get it redone again. Genevieve and I made it quite clear that we don't want this drama happening again when they start bricking the entertainment side of the house. Fingers crossed it gets sorted out soon. Ahhhh dear, the dramas and stress of building Thanks once again for all the replies, will let you guys know the results. Re: Help with your opinions on dramas with our bricks 14Aug 12, 2009 10:32 am buildingwithhamra i am pretty sure some of that brickwork is outside of australian standards, particulary the gap between the bricks...it is not allowed to be more than 15mm, and yours look like they are. I dont know what the rules are about the vertical grouts lines lining up between courses, but it dosnt look right to me. say something before the house is finished so they can rectify it early. This is true. The gap between the bricks (perpends) is not allowed to be more than 15mm. Looking up your wall the perpends should not run out by any more than 15 mm also. This is the standard. How I know this is because I got an independent inspector out and he picked up the exact same thing on my house. If they give you grief contact your brick manufacturer and see if they can give you a copy of the acceptable standards. Re: Help with your opinions on dramas with our bricks 15Aug 12, 2009 12:39 pm Hi Lam, I also had this issue where the perpends did not line up on my brickwork in a few places. I took photos and pointed it all out to my SS. Mine where pretty minimal compared to the photos you have posted, and I put mine down to the rustic nature of my bricks (Daniel Robertson's Hawthorn Tan), which vary in length and width. I also came to the conclusion that this was not on the front facade, nor at eye level, so I was willing to let it slide. To tell you the truth, now the house is almost complete, I really haven't given it another thought. Nice bricks BTW, are they Tawney Heritage? Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! Nice bricks BTW, are they Tawney Heritage? I don't mind if the bricks are misaligned here and there, I don't expect it to be 100%, If it was like your house Stormy, I would have no issue at all. Gee wizz you are good, one shot and got our bricks.. Arghhhh... It's driving me mad now, Genevieve and I can't stop looking at peoples bricks and seeing if they line up or not, it's giving me serious headaches. LOL obsessed much??? Re: Help with your opinions on dramas with our bricks 18Aug 12, 2009 1:27 pm Haha...I only knew they were Tawney Heritage because they were at one stage on the list to get them if we went waaaaay over budget on the Dan Robs!! I was in exactly the same boat as you and looked at everyone's bricks to see if they lined up! It's very disappointing when you want everything to be perfect and it's not quite. I also had a few 'issues' with my AJ's too, that they didn't all look even. Once they were filled with the coloured silicone/putty stuff I didn't notice it at all. Can't even remember which one didn't look 'quite right' now! I was very obsessive! I would let your SS know that re bricking is the only option due to it being in the feature 50mm's and on your front facade. It really is a bit of a dogs breakfast in that corner IMHO. Good Luck! So its worth pushing the issues especially if your not happy, your paying ALOT of money to a builder you want the job done properly! Looks horrible, what the hell was the brickie thinking putting cut bricks in the middle. Anyone with half a brain would have realised that was a stupid idea.
