Browse Forums Flooring & Floor Covering 1 Jun 07, 2009 5:53 pm Hi everyone You've all been so helpful and so full of knowledge so I thought I would ask this. We have gone for a very white palette throughout the house - White on White walls, white kitchen, benchtops/splashback. We plan on going do the browns/beiges in decorating and with furniture. In regards to tables/chairs we like and currently have the lighter woods, like Marri, Pine etc. no dark wooded furniture here. Sooooo, I was going to go for a light Oak colour floors (Karndean) but now considering a darker brown - NOT JARRAH or reddish coloured - what do you think would be best considering our choice of wooden furniture? Do the different colours give off different feels IYKWIM? Thanks Re: Dark floors or light floors? Please give me some advice! 2Jun 07, 2009 5:59 pm This is an excellent question Jilly, and very well said. Not to drawn out. Have you seen the wash look in the Karndean? It’s lovely. So would the light floor and light wood colors be too much - should we go for a dark floor in contrast to the lighter wood furniture? Sorry to keep asking... Re: Dark floors or light floors? Please give me some advice! 6Jun 08, 2009 8:27 am This colour flooring…or better still, something that’s a representation of timber…….will never date! It’s a great colour, not to dark, not to light. I don’t really like the DARK floors, sometimes in homes they tend to take over the whole scheme. Please give me some advice! 7Jun 08, 2009 6:54 pm I wonder what the price difference is between the Knight-Tile we have been quoted on and the Da Vinci? Is it much more - we have a fairly large area to do. Not sure if I can sell the idea to DH. The more I think about it though the more I don't want the floors to be too close in shade/tone to the furniture (Wooden) so do you really think the dark wood won't work (I can't get pictures for a few weeks sorry) - once again the area is fairly large and open, the house is 270sqm if that gives an idea of the spaciousness. Thanks again JIlly Re: Dark floors or light floors? Please give me some advice! 8Jun 08, 2009 7:04 pm Here’s the thing Jilly…..and this is important. If you want a dark timber look, then have it. It’s more important to have what you want than what everyone else says. As I have said before, with timbers, or look alikes, they pretty much go with anything. So wether I like them or not, doesn’t count. What’s important is you are happy.
