We read some horror stories on here about the vino chipping and looking like the house had been shot at. We thought we might be safe when they said vino had changed to aubergine and we have gone with that. I love the color but cant really tell the difference between it and vino and our bricky has been fantastic so far unfortunatley you can see orange where they have raked it, otherwise looks great and preying we get no chips when they get cleaned. Building at Sierra Estate. Re: PGH Bricks 32Sep 24, 2010 8:04 am Thanks for those thoughts Em&Jamie... DH and I have been trying to decide bricks for ages ... I was keen on Sirius Cove, but DH didn't want bricks with just the colour on the outside, so looks like we are about to choose PGH Sorbetto which has solid colour. Your post helped clinch that decision! (although I am still thinking about PGH Cement, also a solid colour ... I am terrible at making decisions!). We will have Woodlands Grey roof, windows, gutters, balustrades etc. T SunshineT's Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34585 Designs start: 4/12/09 DA: 5/7/11 Demo: 22/12/11 Slab: 24/2/12 Keys: 31/8/12 Re: PGH Bricks 33Sep 24, 2010 8:20 am We have Sorbetto and they arnt a solid colour- the front is grey but back is a browny colour as is one end. Again this can cause issues when cleaning, chipping as the brown is very obvious compared to the grey. In saying that LOVE the bricks!!!! Built our Granton in 2010 Handover December 3rd- wooohooo! Now the hard work has began.... Retaining walls and landscaping Re: PGH Bricks 34Sep 24, 2010 8:48 am Daniellec - thank you for that. Hmm... Another H1 poster said they were solid colour (on another thread), but if you have the brick you would know Hm... Just confirms that we need to go and see it for ourselves, at PGH display and find a home to drive by. So you are happy with yours from the sounds of it. They certainly look lovely in the photo you posted (thanks for that too!). Your house looks terrific. You can see they are brown in the middle and have one brown end See I told my hubby all these random photos would come in handy!!! lol And yes I do love our bricks although in cleaning we have got some brown exposed. Thank you. Yes, the random photos are very handy! Can't believe they would make such a fundamental mistake. As for fixing it - rendering or Moroka may just be tempting for your builder as I imagine much cheaper (and for you much faster). (Maybe you could combination for settlement - some cash plus applied finish to the brick). Plus I think render / Moroka looks really terrific. Very modern. Another alternative (that we are doing), is putting Moroka on only part the house. Which will give you still some brick visible, but not all. In terms of the bricks showing red colour in years to come... unfortunately render and Moroka also need long term maintenance (Moroka slightly less than render I believe...). Good luck with your decisions! I am totally torn myself as to what to do. I am loving the look of Sorbetto, but terrified of the chipping .... I was pretty much sold on the Sorbetto (despite it not being a solid colour - DH was very worried about this), but turns out its not good to use with Moroka We are doing half our walls in Moroka - which means both the brick choice and Moroka are equally important. Anyway, more plus pics on my thread. Thanks again for all your posts, and daniellec with the pics (I realise now that I had seen you on this thread and my new thread about Sorbetto bricks. Thanks for your input!).
