Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 13, 2009 11:29 pm Hi all What do you think for the changes I’ve made to my floor plan. Be honest, I’m open to all suggestions and ideas. You will notice I changed the Landry back door, Kitchen, Garage entry door, Theatre door, Ensuit, and the sitting room may have double cavity sliding doors. I took out the WIR in bed 3 & 4 . I will make these WIR at 700 or 750 mm deep. Is this to deep. It’s been a real pain as I’m doing it on the computer. I’ve still got the dilemma with the WIR in bed 1 its too small. I may extend the room out to the front and change it all, I have a plan for it but I’m getting sick of it all. Sooooo, tell me what you think of this as it’s getting close to what I want (I think). The garage entrance door, do you think it may be better in the middle of the sitting room. So I can have a lounge to the back wall. I would like it to go into the kitchen but the fridge is in the road. Please let me know what you think as I value your ideas. forum01.jpg aaa++.jpg Hope you had a happy & safe Easter. Re: Need opinions on these floor plan changes. 3Apr 14, 2009 11:16 am Sorry to say this but you did say to be honest. I actually prefer the original plan, just seems to flow and have more interesting rooms than the plan with changes. If you are so desperate to have 'the back door' off the laundry (as per your previous posts), then you could have it straight ahead of where you walk into the laundry. Not sure how deep that room is but you could still possibly have two rows of units facing each other as the gap between would not be a walk through and as long as you have space to comfortably open/access cupboards etc. then you might get away with it and end up with more storage. It is not usually a room where more than 1 person is at a time so wouldn't need as much space between units as you would say in a kitchen. As to the kitchen being relocated, I know you gain a lot more space but I prefer the meals and family rooms being their own allocated spaces and think it makes them a bit more interesting. It definitely makes the access to the carport more user friendly and leaves the sitting room as a more formal room and doesn't inhibit furniture placement in there. WIR's already covered in your other post. Theatre room is far more interesting in the original plan. You could still put decorative doors at either end if you want to enclose it. In summing up, these are just my preferences and YOU are the one who is going to live there and have your own preferences and desires so please do not feel you need to justify not liking my ideas. Good luck and make sure you post the final plan!! Re: Need opinions on these floor plan changes. 4Apr 14, 2009 12:51 pm Definetly like the kitchen being the centre of the house... In normal life, the kitchen is the heartbeart of the house, and being central and open means you can view the whole house, and be part of all that is happening.. Not stuck into a corner! Electrical Engineer... Don't hold that against me... And keen owner builder... Mainly the building part!! Re: Need opinions on these floor plan changes. 5Apr 14, 2009 6:30 pm I beg to differ Cluth - I much prefer the kitchen in pic 1 - is larger, better working space, bigger pantry, has no walk thru area, has window : natural light and ventilation, and its still open to the liveing area, I wouldn't say its tucked away in a corner but it does have its own defined space. Re: Need opinions on these floor plan changes. 6Apr 14, 2009 6:55 pm Helyn That’s why I went for it. It works. I have photos of it, plenty of food prep area, room for the toaster, jug, knife block all on top. No one walking trough bumping thing off the bench. Pantry 2 x the size & more cupboard space. Windows x 2 natural light. It’s got too much going for it. Still each has their own preferences. I’m looking for as much feed back as possible both for and against, it all helps to improve the plan. pixa2.jpg Thanks Helyn. KW........... Re: Need opinions on these floor plan changes. 7Apr 14, 2009 7:01 pm The kitchen in plan 1 is a lot bigger, but I prefer the location of it in pic 2 -as was mentioned before - it's the heart of the home. I also prefer having two living areas leading on to the alfresco, you could have open sliding doors in summer for airflow. Maybe the kitchen cupboards could be deeper pushing into the sitting, and the sitting moving frontwards? Or having more cupboards/pantry on the home theatre wall? Re: Need opinions on these floor plan changes. 8Apr 14, 2009 8:22 pm I'd get rid of the door off the carport, and you can extend the kitchen area into the meals area slightly...
