Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 27, 2013 11:19 am I'm after some suggestions for a quick growing temporary screen that I can pull out when it is no longer needed. My lemon tree is copping a bit of wind and my understanding is that they don't particularly enjoy it. Our back is quite open and I have planted a couple of drooping sheoks on the western fence and five dodonea viscosa to the north of the lemon tree to stop the wind but while they are growing I need something temporary. I'm not too concerned if it's a bit ugly looking. One suggestion I am considering is corn but woulld appreciate any other suggestions. I am in outer northern Melbourne. Thanks. Re: Quick growing temporary screen 3Mar 27, 2013 12:08 pm Joles you might be better setting up a shadecloth screen to block the wind ( think the triangular beach screens used in the UK ) )...the other suggestion would be growing a climber up a screen. By the time anything else gets big enough you will have either lost the lemon tree to the wind or the shelter planting will be screening anyway. It doesn't get wind all the time, just on certain days, but when it cops it, it really cops it. I have visions of my temporary structure flying through the air and taking out my neighbour's window. It's not affected as yet, seems super healthy and growing great guns. Hi delatite, I tried to grow those and they died in the pots before I could plant them. I'm not much of a green thumb! I think everyone hates getting a lot of wind, not just lemon trees Try not to create a solid barrier because winds will edie over it and can even become stronger on the side you seek to protect. A barrier of shrubs will be ideal. The one I have mentioned will grow super quick Re: Quick growing temporary screen 8Mar 28, 2013 8:34 am How quick Fu? I'm assuming it will cope with clay soil ( or hoping) because I might throw a couple in the help with the understory planting I need. Is it faster growing than the dodonea I already have in? I know that is fast growing but mine seems to be taking it's time.
