Browse Forums Renovation + Home Improvement 1 Feb 11, 2013 7:02 pm Just wondering what the benefits are, if any, of the home owner purchasing materials themselves. Obviously this wouldn't apply to materials which require specific knowledge or where the builder gets good discounts, but what about things like appliances, tapware, light fittings etc which can be bought online or from overseas for lower prices? If we were to go down this route, would this go in the contract? We found the credit given, less a 'handling fee' was a pittance, but were left with little choice. If buying from overseas, or what you intend to buy online, must conform to Aust standards or it wont be installed. To avoid conflict this should be clear from the start. As a online retailer of renovation materials at http://www.restorationonline.com.au we certainly offer discounts to tradesmen but also to owners if there is a reasonable quantity being purchased. Some builders are happy to have the job done by the owner- just be sure that you are communicating well to avoid any misunderstanding. Cheers and good luck! If you think about it, why should it? They have the buying capacity, ABN number and have to transport. Years ago a project home builder gave us a tiny credit on some things we didn't want as part of the deal offered. That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8705 in the stormwater pit or the drain? Those dont look like theyd fit in the drain. Separately, the pits do get stuff in them during the course of the build. For the most… 1 7982 |
