Browse Forums Kitchen Corner 1 Feb 21, 2013 8:39 am Hi, my partner and I are in the process of purchasing a 2 year old home. When we move in we are thinking of making some changes to the kitchen colours etc The kitchen is a average size L shape with an island bench. We were just wanting to change the splashback to a more neutral colour (currently a yellowish brown), replace laminated benches with ceasarstone and alter the cabinets as we would like to put a 900mm oven, cooktop & rangehood instead of the 4 burner cooktop etc. I have also created a topic for the bathrooms and laundry that we are making changes to http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=63104. But we will most likey be keep wall tiles the same throughout the whole house. Has anyone else done this? If so what did your costs roughly work out to be? Is it a difficult job to replace wall tiles? Re: Estimated costs for Kitchen modifications 2Mar 02, 2013 3:01 pm Have you made any progress with your kitchen? it will be an easy process to remove the existing benchtops and replace the doors. if you do as much as you can yourself you will save some money, an with RTA cabinets that are available these days it should be an easy process. Re: Estimated costs for Kitchen modifications 3Mar 02, 2013 4:07 pm I ends up cost a fair bit if you pay for all the work to be done. If you purchase the materials and doors from a cabinet maker and then do the work your self you will save alot of money. To hard to give you any idea on cost as it really depends on the type and number of doors you have. Also the hinges might need replacing. This cost did not however include the removal of brickwork (old corner pantry) and other small walls. We got a revised quote that came in at $12,800 and basically was the same as we have now which seemed a waste of money so pulled out (and lost our $1,700 deposit). I might add that we tried to recoup the deposit by getting a freestanding 750mm wide pantry but I almost died when I was told it was going to be $4,500! And, to replace the existing 600mm pantry door was $700! Outrageous!! The whole lot was going to cost close to $30,000 and this did not include the cooktop and oven as we are retaining the old ones that are not very old actually. So, we have instead purchased modular cupboards in a gloss white (and they look great) that are self closing etc and Benchtops that come in a standard size that you cut to size and the whole lot costs a little less than $4,000. I called a couple of friends over for lunch and we removed the old kitchen with no problems and when the cupboards turn up I am confident we will have no problem putting them in. We took the tiles of very easily and intend to replace with splash backs and have been quoted $450 per metre fitted but will look a little closer at this. So overall, a huge saving and I will post the end result in a few weeks!
