Browse Forums Windows & Doors 1 Aug 23, 2008 6:08 pm A nice guy from Victory Curtains & Blinds came to quote me for plantation shutters today at my new place.
I want the white ones (not sure if they're timber or aluminium. I don't honestly mind, as long as they last a long time and look good), and he measured and did all of that stuff, and the quote is... $5,620 or $5,080 for cash... I think this isn't too bad personally. This is for 2 large patio sliding doors in the living room (each window will have 4 narrow panels of shutters), plus another sliding patio door in the bedroom (4 panels again). Oh, and they're bi-folds too, not sliding (which I don't really like). And they're adjustable obviously with little twirly things, and they're lockable also. Is this ok or is it expensive? I'm getting another quote from Brisbane Timber Shutters on Tuesday. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this a good price for plantation shutters? 2Aug 23, 2008 6:46 pm I think there have been a few bad experiences with the major chain blind joints on this forum.....hopefully others will comment....something like they take your deposit and take forever to deliver. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Is this a good price for plantation shutters? 3Aug 23, 2008 8:23 pm Oh dear. They did say there'd be a deposit due.
They also said it'd take about 6 weeks for delivery/installation. This isn't a problem for us, as we don't need them right away anyway. As long as it doesn't take like, months and months of course! go for timber though, in any case :0) Re: Is this a good price for plantation shutters? 5Aug 26, 2008 5:14 pm I got another quote. Eek.
This one was through Brisbane Timber Blinds & Shutters (also on the Gold Coast), and it was $6,300!! NO WAY! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: Is this a good price for plantation shutters? 6Aug 28, 2008 2:25 pm Wow, that is expensive. I would love to have the white shutters too but worry about the dust cleaning factors and their insulation properties.
I got a quote for roller blinds on our sliding doors and was pleasantly surprised at the quote - only around $400 from memory, for two blinds. Mum of 4, apprentice renovator Re: Is this a good price for plantation shutters? 7Aug 28, 2008 2:54 pm I had a quote from Victory to do Romans which was TWICE the price of two other quotes ... think there must have been a better margin in roller blinds because he really wanted me to get them instead. Re: Is this a good price for plantation shutters? 8Aug 28, 2008 5:12 pm I'm not too sure of how prepared you are to get your hands slightly 'dirty' but DIY is much more economical for plantation shutters.
You will need to measure, stain, assemble and install them yourself. But they do look great once completed. Someone else on theis forum has used the site too: www.shutterkits.com.au I got quoted $1500 including postage for: 2 horizontal bedroom windows 1 horizontal ensuite window 1 normal size bathroom window 1 toliet window. My hubby is actually excited that he gets to put it together. A bit like lego Re: Is this a good price for plantation shutters? 9Aug 29, 2008 3:55 pm Ah, no no no, we're not doing it ourselves. We are SO not handy people. I don't have the time to do it properly, I haven't got even the faintest idea how to measure properly, stain stuff, do anything, and we have no tools or anything to do anything with, our balcony doors have something called storm guards or something which mean the shutters have to sit a bit out from them, I don't know what that even means in terms of actually installing them, I want bi-folding ones as well and...no way. lol. I want them to look GOOD, and if I did it myself, they wouldn't. Simple as that. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Hello everyone Please advice me how can I install mesh security window or we cab say mesh flyscreen inside while the pvc plantation shutters are already installed? Is… 0 11594 Wow I hadn't realised things had gotten that pricey in just a couple of years since I built, that is crazy with how much land is now costing if you aren't lucky enough to… 3 7056 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35310 |
