Browse Forums Building A New House Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 121Jan 21, 2013 3:30 pm Also posting to say how impressed I am. Requested further samples for Karndean after the first lot arrived in less than a week but weren't suitable. This time I requested looselay samples. Much to my surprise I had phone call from rep saying he'd like to drop them off personally!!!! Has anyone ever heard of that? This has reaffirmed that the looselay is the right floor for us. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 122Feb 03, 2013 12:31 pm I'm looking at vinyl tiles/planks for our existing house. Our neighbour installed Karndean Van Gogh nearly a year ago and are very happy with it - heavy chairs etc haven't marked it at all. I went looking around the stores in the last few weeks and Karndean seemed to be what was being pushed - one sales guy really pushed the looselay - said he had sold it to a number of places - including minning accommodation, and to a bloke doing up an old house. Said the bloke doing up the old house was floorboards on the ground, and that none of the reps recommended the glue down stuff for that situation. The bloke bought some and laid it on the floor while all the tradies were still working there - apparently was so happy with how it stood up to it, that he came back and bought enough to do the whole house. Same sales guy said he also had an architect using the looselay as well. He said some other brand of looselay need expansion gaps and then scotia around the skirting boards etc to cover the gap. Karndean didn't need this apparently. The other sales people weren't interested in looselay - one sales man when I said I had big windows that I let the sun in everyday in winter to warm the house up, straight away steered away from Karndean and started recommending Kenbrock - said their protective coating including Aluminium Oxide which it made it a lot better and less susceptible to fading. I asked another sales guy about this and he just said I've been talking to too many people. Can anyone else give any info or comments on Aluminium Oxide in the protective coating on vinyl floor planks/tiles? Had anyone had any issues with fading etc? Has anyone had any brand of looselay installed for a while? Like everyone - there is a lot to choose from and a lot of sales talk - but I want something that will look good for a long time and stand up to the wear of family etc. Thanks Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 123Feb 03, 2013 1:48 pm Hi renokisp Can I suggest you go straight to the relevant manufacturers and speak to their reps? It might give you the required information. I also have concerns about fading but figure that as we are going to have UV protected double roller blinds, which I can pull down while the floor is in direct sunlight, it shouldn't be an issue. Also using the looselay will enable us to replace faded planks with ease should this do become an issue down the track. I also have friends who have had the Karndean Van Gogh for 4 years now and not one issue, the floor has held up amazingly well with 2 small children and as well as a cat. The only reason we didn't go for the Van Gogh is that is didn't have the exact colour we were after so we opted for looselay. We also heard that there are potentially issues with shrinkage and movement over time - I believe Karndean would look after us if that becomes the case - their after sales service is supposed to be very good. Nevertheless we have we have opted to have it glued down so there is no chance of it happening. The main purpose of looselay is for easy removal which would be great if you are renting but in our case it makes sense to have it stuck down permanently (but can still easily be removed and replaced - we are ordering slightly more than required), which should also eliminate any potential movement issues. Lastly, we had a bad experience with a previous product that was highly recommended for kids, pets and was supposed to be a heavy duty commercial vinyl plank. The product was very, very disappointing and that is why I did a fair bit of research this time around and have opted for Karndean. I have had several samples here in our rental over the past few weeks, have placed them in walkways and in the kitchen and I've also taken keys to them and so far I'm really impressed. Only once they are down will I be able to tell whether we have done the right thing. Hope this helps somewhat. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 124Feb 03, 2013 1:51 pm Hi Renokisp I currently have Karndean Knightplank in Warm Oak...its been down for 5 years and I too have full length windows which get the sun and there is absolutely no fading... We love Karndean so much that we are having the Van Gogh in the home we are currently building... I have no hesitation in recommending them, as for the many, many other brands out there, I looked at most of them and still came back to Karndean tried and tested and been around for donkeys years...Better the devil you know than choose one that is only trying to impersonate... As for looselay it is still pretty new to market here in WA.... We've been looking at lots of different brands and had samples on the floor testing them out - getting something that stands up to our tests and has the look we want is an interesting exercise! Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 129Apr 21, 2013 10:53 am The product we had and were told was heavy duty commercial, has been taken off the market. What upset me is that we were in touch with the manufacturer and the supplier and neither were prepared / or just didnt return calls, to come out to have a look at the issue and now 3 years down the track we found out that the product had a lot of issues and was removed from sale. Grrrrr (will pm you the name) Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 130Apr 21, 2013 11:16 am I would like to know name of bad product too Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 131Apr 21, 2013 4:43 pm Ours was Karndean Knightile KP50. The planks were $25 sqm and laying was $15 per sqm by a chap i found on Gumtree. Please note these prices were 5 years ago so perhaps they have gone up since. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 132Apr 21, 2013 4:46 pm Wow I think Oneness had those. Must ask her what hers cost. Even so, 5 years isn't that long. Bargain, well done. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 133Apr 21, 2013 6:01 pm SB ours were KP39 and cost $53sqm supplied, screed feather finish, laid and sealed (5 1/2 yrs ago) So yep dexx you got a bargain... I found a colour I love and have been offered 14,500 for 197ish sqm including install and feather coat (no levelling compound necessary thank god lol). The only problem is I got samples that scratch very easily and only sem to disappear when buffed with a cloth...however the samples at cc don't scratch at all.....I'm actually dubious to go with them if they're going to scratch so easily but I think I'm loving this colour a bit more than my Karndean options, though I feel safer with the Karndean.... HD Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 135Sep 10, 2013 9:19 pm Update on Van Gogh - not loose lay. Nothing but disappointment so far. Floor is lifting in several areas, finish in some corners is poor, floor wasn't level enough before being laid and feels annoyingly lumpy. It scratches very easily just like last floor, also has very stubborn stains on it since day one that just won't budge and also we have now waited several weeks on a verdict on what is to be done next and who is responsible. Hurry up Karndean and supplier, my patience is starting to wear thin. Devastated that I feel this way, when I was so excited about it in the beginning. I pray they don't let me down. I just wanted a low maintenance, nice looking floor that lasts. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 136Sep 10, 2013 9:22 pm That's very disappointing SB.
