Browse Forums Building A New House Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 83Jan 08, 2013 9:34 pm We originally planned for wood laminate but after walking through displays and seeing how terrible most of the wood flooring looked, very scratched, dinted etc it made our mind up because neither of us wanted tiles... My other half wasn't convinced till we saw it. Though SW you said you were looking at timbernate (sp?) I looked on line and that looks like it could be as sturdy/long lasting Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 84Jan 08, 2013 9:41 pm Yes fmac we saw the timbernate too (hard to scratch with car keys!).. The thing I didnt like about it was that it has a full gloss finish and I prefer the matt/lower sheen style floor as any marks/footprints etc are less noticeable...My daughter had the full gloss bamboo and it showed everything as does porcelain tiles (if they are any colour other than white/beige)... I enjoy housework & cleaning but i dont want to take it to the extreme! lol Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 85Jan 08, 2013 9:43 pm Yeah I like that the vinyl planks are Matt. My sister rented in a place with gloss wood floors and after three years there the floor was a mess and they didn't have kids then and were very careful with furniture also looked dusty except when just cleaned. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 86Jan 08, 2013 9:48 pm BTW fmac...we chose Classic Oak too Great minds think alike! We had real jarrah floorboards in our last house with a satin gloss finish so I like a bit of gloss and in the display centre they don't look too shiny. Then again our whole house is going to be glossy so it will fit I like the bit of real wood too having had real wood before. Yes, Timbernate has a 25 year guarantee and it is Eco friendly and cheap to lay. But MIL also suggested visiting bamboozle's lifewood store - think they'll be way more expensive but worth a look to compare. I also don't think they had a colour I like from memory of visiting their website but you can't judge on computer the colours. I think I said elsewhere or maybe in this thread but I love the colours you choose SB. Fmac have I seen a pic of your choice yet? Think I need to revisit your thread. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 88Jan 08, 2013 9:59 pm Its with the pre start selections, not the originals the updates. With the kitchen samples I put them ontop of the plank I wanted the summer oak but needed to cut costs somewhere. It looks quite orange on the website but isn't in real life. Oneness Great minds Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 89Jan 08, 2013 10:53 pm fmac Its with the pre start selections, not the originals the updates. BTW I had a fabulous pm from a guy who lays these things for a living in QLD I think and he gave me great confidence in the looselay. As a safeguard they can be installed with spray adhesive but it doesnt seem necessary for WA's climate. A builder also pm'd and although he hasn't used Karndean he didn't hesitate recommending looselay at all. Even my hubby approved of colour tonight. Something else to tick off the list. Now for getting the best price PS, we should all get together for a 'floor' date in 12 months time to compare floor happiness Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 91Jan 08, 2013 11:11 pm Yay for decisions and for floor happiness party! Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 92Jan 08, 2013 11:15 pm This time next year well all be in our new houses *fingers crossed* I will be happy if I'm this excited about my floor when I see it in the house Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 93Jan 08, 2013 11:31 pm fmac This time next year well all be in our new houses *fingers crossed* I will be happy if I'm this excited about my floor when I see it in the house Had to get account numbers for services today and one of the forms asked for expected build completion date - funnily enough they didn't have an "I don't know/hopefully ASAP" option! Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 94Jan 08, 2013 11:37 pm That's my response to people We have 4 weeks left here before the move to my moms. While I appreciate we have it as an option I was hoping for a slab before we moved in. Not looking like that will happen. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 95Jan 08, 2013 11:41 pm Awful isn't it. You hope, you expect and you don't get. Next year around this time it will all be a distant memory. (And forgotten in my case - bit like child birth) Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 96Jan 08, 2013 11:49 pm In part it was our fault taking 3 weeks to confirm our prestart changes. But would prefer to take a few weeks extra now to get it right! It'll happen soon and gives some extra time to save some money for all the things we will need when we move in! Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 97Jan 08, 2013 11:51 pm Whats a few weeks in the great scheme of things. All worth the wait. Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 98Jan 09, 2013 11:26 am SB great news...that's another choice you can cross off the list Slab Poured 30/05/12 Lower Floor Plate High 20/08/12 Upper Floor & Wall Framing 30/08/12 Roof 14/09/12 Lock-Up 13/12/12 Yee haaaaa WE ARE IN & I HAVE A NEW IPHONE Re: LOOSE LAY KARNDEAN - update from old thread 99Jan 09, 2013 7:05 pm Just a quick word of warning to all the possible Karndean buyers out there...especially SB and fmac who have made up their minds... We decided on the classic oak after bringing home sample display boards from the store...loved them... Because the store didnt have an individual plank for me to keep I contacted Karndean on monday and then sent me a couple (always handy to have for choosing colours and furniture etc)...Anyway they arrived today... Shock horror they are not the same~!!! sooooo different than the sample board!! They are a completely different tone/shade Sooooo I have no idea which is correct shade...Went in 3 shops and 2 have the one i love and the other had the same as todays planks.... Will be contacting Karndean in the morning because I only want classic oak if its the same colour as the boards!...So glad i havent placed order yet!! Pretty peed off really considering we have taken forever to find one we both love and agree on and now have this spanner thrown in...hubby will kill me if he has to traipse around one more carpet shop!! I do know the classic oak was similar to the summer oak both in store and the planks they sent me. Though I think the problem when they send one plank is you don't get the effect of a number of planks together... We actually weren't as big a fan of the summer oak plank they sent us. But thanks for the warning, think I will have to wait and see... Do you have I turns to show the difference? A Sabco spin mop, minimal moisture, not very regularly.
