Melbourne has some pretty cold winters. Stewie Cold doesn't bother us, it's the heat we are wanting to keep out. Especially the bedrooms. The other rooms will be fine as they face south and east. Deemaree I thought that all new builds in Victoria had wall batts plus sisilation these days? I don't think so. I think it's more to do with the R rating and ensuring the 5 (or is it 6 now?) star energy rating. I could be wrong though. building-expert Just make sure you have your builder's permission to come on site and do the insulation. If you are lucky he will allow it (I would not). Our builder is pretty laid back. Said we can essentially do what we want during the build providing he knows what is going on. My brother did this with his build (prob 6 or 7 years ago now) and the difference is outstanding definitely worth doing - for us anyway. Resale is better for a well insulated home too-most buyers these days are au fait with the added heating costs of a poorly insulated home-even if you don't plan to sell in the short term. Because its such a small area, you might want to consider a high density acoustic wall batt no more than 90mm thick, to maximise Total system R value Found the answer.
