Re: National Broadband Network 46Jun 20, 2012 11:31 pm My Hamptons build (completed): viewtopic.php?f=31&t=63370 Moved in Wednesday 11th Dec 2013 Front landscaping completed June 2016 Re: National Broadband Network 49Dec 19, 2012 3:12 pm Conduit from street to external PCD Conduit from PCD to internal unit (unit supplied by others) Upgrade phone wiring to cat6 (1 std point) 1 additional cat6 point $626 As written in the PCV... It doesnt make any sense to me Plus i have the hills home hub getting installed with opticom connection Re: National Broadband Network 50Dec 19, 2012 7:19 pm Opticom are a wholesale provider like NBN co, so I imagine their deal is with your estate. It looks like their deal should include providing lead in from the st, and installing the hills home hub etc, but perhaps they forgot to include the internal cabling. who knows. Re: National Broadband Network 51Dec 20, 2012 7:53 pm From my cso: The reason why the NBN cabling has been added to PCV 6, as is was not allowed for in your contract tender or electrical quote this is a standard item that will need to be done from now on as Telstra will be changing over to NBN National Broadband network ,once this has been changed over through Telstra if you don’t have the NBN box provided to your home you will not be able to have phone line / internet and to provide this at a later date it would be a much more costly expense to do after hand over. Which still doesnt make sense because opticom have already wired the suburb, and hills hub will done by the builder also. Re: National Broadband Network 52Dec 20, 2012 7:53 pm And the developer emailed me saying no NBN pre-wiring is necesary... So confusing Re: National Broadband Network 53Dec 20, 2012 8:22 pm I paid the $620 benblink with Eden brae for the NBN install but i'm pretty sure you don't need it due to being in a opticom estate and your developer will provide the conduit from the street. Building the Lawson with Eden Brae in Cameron Park Re: National Broadband Network 54Dec 21, 2012 7:25 am Maybe they provide you the hub with connection to nothing. I am in an Opticomm estate and have cat6, coax, and a few other wires hanging out of the garage wall for when Opticomm arrive to install in January. This was all STD stuff with the house, sounds like the builder has no idea. Maybe find out if you can talk to the electricians that will install it, if the builder is talking about Telstra they have no idea 2 Re: National Broadband Network 55Dec 21, 2012 9:13 am Daedalus plucka I don't get it- Why are people paying their builders $1000's of dollars to be "NBN Ready" when NBN Co will do the standard installation free anyway? Sounds like a ripoff NBN will install the fibre cable but the cost that people are paying for is data points in the house to use the fibre for. and its an extreme rip off they wanted to charge me 1500 for 2 points and some other gimmicky crap. i laugehd it off as i knew the labour involved is nowhere near that amount - i can simply wire them myself which i will do. ive run a data point (or sometimes two) to each room in my in laws house and that didnt even come close to the cost of what builders are charging. its like one of their best profit upgrades me thinks I will interject here and post this: http://acma.gov.au/WEB/STANDARD/pc=PC_1685 It is illegal for a home user to install their own PERMANENT data/telephony cabling. The operative word is permanent. You are allowed to string ethernet cabling along the floor/wall etc, but as soon as it goes into a wall cavity or a conduit between your house and your shed, you need to employ a licensed data cabler. This ACMA page above lists the ACMA's stance on home cabling. I find not being able to install your own Ethernet cables as absurd as not being able to paint your own house. Not rocket science or dangerous to rough in cable before plasterboard are installed. Anyway people who want to run their own cable will continue to run their own cable. If people had to get a licensed cabler in, most would just go wifi. Re: National Broadband Network 58Dec 21, 2012 12:00 pm JB1 I'm sure 99% of people just laugh off that silly rule. As much as I agree that the rules are borderline "Nanny State, they are in place for a reason. JB1 if the police ever raid my 'dangerous' house with Cat6 throughout the walls, it's not a data cable but simply HDMI over Ethernet and/or alarm cable. Anyhow please don't advocate that people break the law by doing it themselves. Re: National Broadband Network 59Dec 21, 2012 1:40 pm I never advocated people do their own cabling. But people who want to do their own cabling will do it regardless. But yes, the correct way is to run any cable, be it coax, speaker, AV, data, alarm, security separately/away from electrical mains cable, so the chances of making other cables live is reduced. If they need to intersect, run them perpendicular to each other. You raises an interesting and valid point about insurance, but I wonder how many fires around the world have been attributed to Ethernet cables. Re: National Broadband Network 60Dec 21, 2012 2:23 pm Pugs It is illegal for a home user to install their own PERMANENT data/telephony cabling. Considering the quality of the job done in my house by a so-called licensed installer (half the ports didnt work), no thanks - I'll DIY. |
