Re: Solar - what Kw capacity do I need for 15kwh/day 8Nov 29, 2012 9:06 pm If your goal is to get to a point where you produce more than you consume, look carefully at reducing consumption and installing a smaller system. It may well come in cheaper than installing a bigger system to match your current consumption. Our 4 person, 4bd house is powered by a 1.7kW system. Even better would be to install a big system and cut your consumption to export more to the grid and green up your neighbourhood. Good luck. Panels are north facing. My daily average thus far ( installed mid december last year) is 7.1Kw and i'm in Adelaide as well Dont get confused, mine was averaged out over a year with a little morning shading from a neighbors gumtree. I suggest your system is not working (or connected) as it should. The only time I get as low output as yours is May -- July in the middle of winter when I average around 6. This time of the year mine (even with an hour or so shading) puts out 20 -- 22.3 max Kwh/day. Averaging over Dec and Jan 16.8 -- 17.8Kwh/day. I just cant see how you can get the average production you're getting. My summer production is between 25-30kw's. Thats on a 4kw system, whereas you produce 20-22.3 on a 3kw system. Can your system provide production charts? I have attached production charts of my system. The chart is of only one inverters figures, so multiply it by 2 to see my total production as I have 2 x 2kw systems - both with no shade and north facing. So it's about 15kw's - sorry mate. But I wonder why they installed 2 inverters? thats the package that they offered at the time - dont know if there was any price or efficiency driven reason Re: Solar - what Kw capacity do I need for 15kwh/day 13Feb 25, 2013 4:45 pm Best thing to do is get a few companies out to give you a free quote. it depends on house facing, location, panels sizes, panel watts, day time usage and night time usage. If you have any questions please feel free to ask, i have solar installed and also work in the industry, i might be able to give you some pointers. Re: Solar - what Kw capacity do I need for 15kwh/day 14Jan 04, 2014 10:30 am I have a question on this... most systems are designed (by the installer) to not actually produce your total daily power usage, they are instead designed to cover 90% of your actual usage during the time of production... so if you are looking at power usage by hour your average power consumption over the day should look something like this: (Red line) Summer Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ (Red line) Winter Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So unless there is something about how you're billed to mean that the power company your with is looking at your total daily usage and billing you on the complete input/output figure (so if you use power during the non-producing periods, then returning it as production climbs, and the company somehow allow the production times to cancel out the power usage times?) you'll probably find that your usage during production period is low and you only need a 1.5 to 3kw system.
