Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Nov 15, 2012 6:43 am I am about to plant some herbs in a garden bed I used last year for vegetables but the problem is it is covered in a leafy small plant as per the picture. How can I remove/kill these safely and efficiently before i plant my herbs as i can see these taking over the lot very quickly. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Uploaded with ImageShack.us Re: Herb Garden (need advice first, please) 2Nov 22, 2012 12:32 pm Best way is to spray with glyphosate - otherwise known as Zero or Roundup. You'll need to leave it for about a week in order that it gets down into the roots and kills them off. The foliage will have started to wither at this point. You don't need to wait until they are completely yellow and laying flat - as long as the chemical has got to the roots then its done its work. Then just dig it over and bury the dying foliage. Don't worry about chemical residues - glyphosate becomes innactive as soon as it hits the soil - it does its work through the foliage and into the vascular system of the plant - there is no residue effect and it is quite safe. You'll also have aereated the soil by digging it over and by the look of that soil it needs it - I might suggest adding some composted materials or dynamic lifter at the same time - sprinkle it on then dig over and it'll get into the top level of the soil.
