Greetings (again)
just been quoted 660$ for a contour survey on a 750sqm block in Kelmscott hills (perth)
does this seem excessive?
Cheers

Browse Forums Building A New House Re: survey cost 6Nov 20, 2012 3:37 pm I've been told $500 at the cheapest, to $1500 for the 'premium' survey where they spend 3x the amount of time at the property, for whatever reason. Re: survey cost 7Nov 20, 2012 3:54 pm the place i rang, a local surveyor in the kelmscott region, asked for the address and obviously brought it up on the computer, and gave me a quote - im thinking its a sq m rate? anyway, ive taken the 660$ quote. Has anyone done survey/structural engineering plan before buying the block? the reason i am, is because even though it will cost me about 3-4000$, id rather spend that on a block that i can afford to build on, rather than buy the block and be stuck with a white elephant. ideas? Cheers Re: survey cost 8Nov 21, 2012 9:03 am I was under the impression that the soil test and site survey is all the builders need to determine how to build on the property (and therefore the costs). Plus on top of that you should already have any environmental, wildfire or bushfire overlays that need to be factored in. Re: survey cost 9Nov 21, 2012 9:12 am We were quoted $850 for survey & soil tests done by our builder. If we go ahead with buying the block then it comes out of our 'site costs', but if we dont then its a loss to us because the tests have to be done again on the block we actually buy anyways. Every block we've looked at we've been provided with an engineering plan and a contour plan by the REA. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. Renovated...a LOT. Built in 2013. Our thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67954 Re: survey cost 10Nov 21, 2012 9:18 am hmm, not sure on that one - i can check with my builder. at the moment, he is letting me get my own survey/engineering done and for lack of a better term "freelance" building. He built the intial house (which burnt down in kelmscott fires) so knows the block quite well. But i think to satisfy council, engineering may have to be done, and the council can then supply a building surveyor to mark out building. Our thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=67954 Re: survey cost 14Nov 21, 2012 9:25 am the block im looking at is a bit different - the owner is selling it to me privately (if i buy it). so perhaps any REA paperwork is non-existant. I'd rather spend 3-4000 on survey/engineering plan and know i cant afford site costs/house than spend 100-1000's on a block i cant afford to build on - yes, im on a budget! Re: survey cost 15Nov 21, 2012 9:32 am Can I ask what the difference is between the site survey and the contour plan? As far as I know, the site survey produces the contour plan doesn't it? Re: survey cost 17Nov 21, 2012 9:36 am In that case, what's the difference between the soil test and the engineering? Because I thought the soil type will be able to determine the engineering required to build on your property? Re: survey cost 18Nov 21, 2012 9:37 am I *think* the site survey just does the block in question but the contour plan is the whole area, so you can see drainage issues around the block as well as on it, if that makes sense. - MrsT Brought first house in 2008. A soil test and site survey is generally $500 - $1500, I wouldn't have thought you'd need to spend more than that.
