Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Nov 12, 2012 2:29 pm This is a rookie question but just wondering if it is advisable to install evaporative cooling while the house is being built or safe to leave it for after? We're building an app. 42sq double storey We got quoted about 5,800 and only for first floor, also not sure if we should get a point downstairs as well because our bedroom is downstairs ? Thanks in advance for your response(s)! -------- Found our dream home : Porter Davis Marbella 42 Me and Mojo's build thread I'm still a rookie please don't shoot me!! -------- Re: Evaporative Cooling during or after house built ADVISE P 2Nov 12, 2012 2:43 pm If you're building a double story house, you wont be able to get any of the ducts or vents to the ground floor after handover, you would need to get that done during construction otherwise you will only be getting point to the upstairs rooms. Evap doesn't work in humidity and you end up with mould. Re: Evaporative Cooling during or after house built ADVISE P 5Nov 13, 2012 10:15 am Thanks boosho, Skyzie85, and donna61! donna61, I'm not too sure about humidity levels because we get quite hot dry summers where we're building (Craigieburn VIC) I think downstairs ducts in essential, not sure if the builder we're looking into at the moment does it (Porter Davis) and how much more extra it's going to cost All adding up but this is kind of one of those essential things you don't want to wish for later down the track! Skyzie85 how much is it costing you if you don't mind me asking? -------- Found our dream home : Porter Davis Marbella 42 Me and Mojo's build thread I'm still a rookie please don't shoot me!! -------- Re: Evaporative Cooling during or after house built ADVISE P 6Nov 13, 2012 11:32 am Hey BrownKokonut.. I'm pretty sure your builder would be able to provide Evap Cooling as an upgrade.. just to give you an idea when we were looking at different builders we got a quote from PD and they quoted cooling at $5832 but that was for a single story. so i would say double story would be between $9000-$12000 Building Henley Monaco Nouveau Q1 - Mernda Villages https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=57810 http://razbuild.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Evaporative Cooling during or after house built ADVISE P 7Nov 13, 2012 4:06 pm No worries: we've actually got 2 quotes. One was using a bonair & that quote was $4,890. That's for 9 ducts. Then we got another using a breezair unit & that was $6,570. The company that sells breezair said bc of the size of our house (34sq living) he would suggest 2 smaller units instead of 1 large one. So we'd have one servicing the bedrooms & the other for the living space. 2 units were quoted at $8,280. We're going to go with the breezair 2 unit option as we've read breezair is the better option being the different fan it's uses. Re: Evaporative Cooling during or after house built ADVISE P 8Nov 13, 2012 8:49 pm I think that that's a wise choice. We had the largest breezair and on a longer run it did struggle a bit. (31sq) The 2 smaller is definately a better option and had we been aware of it, we would have gone down that road. It is a Bonaire summerbreeze (thanks google) with 9 units. I have also read that there is a lot of preference for Breezair with a lot of people saying it's quieter.. I think the Bonair one only comes with one unit, at the moment having a headache from all the things we have to look at and read about Learning new things from reading your opinions thanks guys! -------- Found our dream home : Porter Davis Marbella 42 Me and Mojo's build thread I'm still a rookie please don't shoot me!! -------- The only thing to add to these comments is that where possible it's always good to try and work with people than just say "no" because you can.
